When I joined I was actually was trying to find the standalone and couldn't find it at all... A download link on the homepage is a good idea like others said. I haven't experienced any lag on the standalone and I support it as well.

Yes maybe this will decrease the number of people on MP always complaining about lag

When I first started coming to this site, I always had problems with lag, and that led me to believe that ffr was a small crummy flash game. Because of that, I never played much, resulting to playing more SM than anything else. It was only a few months ago that I found out about the standalone players.... around December. Shit, if I had known about them 2 years ago, things would be so much better.

Also, somebody needs to figure out how to be logged in to a stand alone player while on OS X.

Use the velocity engine. The engine has a in-game log in system.

Cant the engine be updated to support the latest flash version and not lag? Is it impossible to do or just too time consuming? Why even have the browser flash player if it causes problems?

velocity engine code is prolly a mess . 8273492873498234 lines of code. kidding velocerrrs your engine is nice

Velo's engine is exported to support flash 8, so that stand alone engines can be used.
Also it's as2, so using flash 10 export wouldn't make a difference.

I know Velo is working hard on a new interface with a certain ffr-member. Hopefully it will be rewritten in AS3 and exported for Flash 10.
(although this would obviously take a shitton of work -- but would definitely attract new and re-attract old ffr members alike)

Absolutely this. The standalone is very easy to use, and helps the lag a lot, so new players should definitely be directed to it, even before they enter the forum community.

^ Latter end of the comment wall is proof that the standalone player is NOT promoted well enough. As I said, it has to be official. Not a stickied thread (not everyone participates in forums).

im in love again with FFR after getting the standalone. please get this subject on the front page because most people get discouraged to play the game on the internet browser flash. Also i have improved so much from this, thx for posting this.
