It's not broken. It's your firewall settings that are making it not work. I had the same problem. I tweaked my trend micro firewall, and now I don't have a problem.
The thing is i already have 4 FFR exceptions, 2 for 8080 and 8082 TCP and 2 for 8080 and 8082 UDP. its still not working. i also cleared my cache afterwards
It didn't work on my laptop when I was using my school's wifi. I changed nothing, went home, and it worked. I'm guessing the main issue here is the router.
Not to many people are going to be very pleased that they have to sit here and rack their brains off trying to figure out how to set it up and get it working.
It just couldn't be simple could it? No easy solution at all? Dumb.
I agree with Plan. Should of made it easy =/
EDIT: I don't mean to knock the hard work, aperson. It's just a little frustrating for me, and I'm sure others as well, who have been waiting for profile chat to get fixed, and once it is fixed, still can't get it working.
Is there any other possible solution to it? To make it easier to access?

It worked for me before FFR was down and have have not messed with my settings on any part of my computer so there should be no reason why it shouldnt work.

so i had the same prob, go to any computer of yours that is connected to the router (id recommend one that is connected via an Ethernet port, many routers require a restart after you tweek them and that will knock you offline) on the computer open a browser and go into the router Control panel, usually accessable by typing in your IP address, from there you can edit ports on the routers firewall, if you are at a school, your SOL. good luck and see you there

Reason: better wording
It depends on the software you have installed. If you're using an antivirus client, that may be the problem as well. The problem is that FFR's ProChat is using those ports to communicate with your computer, and those are generally common ports to use. The fact that they are not working is that they are being blocked by something on your end. While I'm not sure why we have to use these ports, I'm not certain. Rest assured, this whole thing will be better once MP and Vidchat come back. Just hang in there. Aperson's doing a lot of credible work around here, as well as TwilightPrincess and the others.
ok, I'm on windows 7, someone please SS me this port because saying its 8080 and TCP and whatnot isnt helping. Or at least make a decent visual process on how to open these things.

Bottom line.
Something HAD to have been changed. It shouldn't be this complicated and wishy-washy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt? Not everyone is going to be able to switch all their firewall settings around and their router settings around just so they can access profile chat. This is ridiculous.
Of course things are going to be changed. All of these services are being restored on different servers/settings in comparison to where they used to be. Rather than being extremely angry, you could try telling the devs what you have on your computer and/or the software/hardware you're using so they can troubleshoot your problems.
Well, they've given a temporary solution to accommodate for the new settings, with instructions on how to fix the problems. There's not too much more to be done.
