Re: Score % of Record Holder

I really like the last picture, but it's weird to not have the in-game score, even though it doesn't really have anything to do with your 'real' score.

Maybe you could move the scores down (so you would have 6 instead of 5) and then have
    SCORE............65515 (50P+25G+5A-10M-5B, out of 50*maxcombo)
ACCURACY.....655850 (this is the accuracy bonus, 500P+250G+50A-300M-15B, out of 500*maxcombo)
COMBO........1342000 (there would be a horizontal line after this one; out of 1000*maxcombo)
    TOTAL.........2063365
    YOUR BEST...2063365
    FFR BEST.....2080100

I think the mods might look good near "Score", although we would have to get rid of the circle. So maybe it would be like "Mods: Normal, Visible" with a small font (like the P/G/A/M/B font size) and vertical-aligned to the bottom of the header.

Re: Score % of Record Holder

If we were to do this the score screen would lag undeniably. I like the idea, put the combo/total possible combo and take out the who percent system altogether.Less clutter, less lag, 2nd most important information shown. (1st being your actual perfect/good/av count)

+1 for adding the combo/Possible total combo
      -1 for the percent system.

In this thread Silvuh has a great idea and showcases her boowhore status all at once. :P

I like this idea because it might cause fewer questions about score calculation. Some people might complain about a more cluttered results screen, but know that I won't be one of them. Just like using speedmods back in the day, it's something people will grow accustomed to.

Im going to need to agree with the idea but the execution that is proposed is all wrong. The scores should be made into a percentile rank system. It would really make things easier because anything under AAA would automatically be a 99%.

Well, think about the actual ranking system with this at the same time. Let's do another example from the percentile scoring idea I came up with. Say that you have 100 people, including you--and 9 people AAA the song. You would have rank 10, and then you would base the percentile off of the people who beat you. In this case, you have 9 people better than you, and 90 others who are lower or the same as you. This would put you at 91%. Yes, it's a harsh drop, but it would give a more realistic percentage when applied to a proper situation where there are many more players. The percentile system's only flaw is when there are very few players who have played the song, or when many people have AAA'd the songs. But, for most songs with typical AAA counts, it would be pretty accurate.

Re: Score % of Record Holder

Oh, okay, I was totally thinking of something else, my bad... You mean "100(1 - members with higher scores / total scores)". Sorry, didn't get that the first time. Yeah, that works...

Maybe this "percentile" should just replace "Score % of Record holder", the max combo would be added next to your combo and nothing else would be change... I'll make some more screenshots and stuff soon. Yeah, sorry for not updating in a while.. Thanks for all the input.

And, oh, about the mod circle.. I decided, that, well, if everything else gets too cluttered, then it could be a list instead of a circle. Would take up less space that way.
Also, does the score screen even lag that much how it is? Except for the every-not-often taking-a-while-to-record... I don't know.

So I'll just get to Photoshop in a bit and try stuff...

Re: Score % of Record Holder

well my thought was to actually implement the PR equation:

                B = number of scores below x
E = number of scores equal to x
n = total number of scores
                x = your score

Now if the song has had under 100 people play it then this formula would give slightly skewed results; however, with this formula, if implemented correctly, you will be given a very accurate depiction as to where you stand in regards to the rest of FFR.

Addendum: This is the formula the schools use to figure out you class rank/percentile

Re: Score % of Record Holder

I cant remember why there is the .5 but ill give an example.

1000 people played a song. you scored better than 735 and the same as 30. Using the PR formula you would get:

                    (735+.5*30)/1000=.7500=75th percentile

                    (735+30)/1000=.7650=76th percentile

Now I know I am using the correct formula(triple checked with my notes, a teacher, and Marywood University Mathematics Dept.), I just for the life of me cannot remember the reason there is a .5 there. As you can see though there is a difference in the ranking and if they are off just a little with that small "test" then imagine what would happen when you start getting 10,000 people playing and getting ranks on 1 song. The difference between the scores would be substantial and we would be back in the same position we are in now. This whole formula is based on an assumption that there is not a person out there cheating their scores.

Re: Score % of Record Holder

That formula could be useful because it also incorporates the number of people who have an AAA on a given song. So if you AAA Excite Bike you'll get a worse percentile than if you AAA an FMO. So, if you get a rank 1, the percentile would actually reflect how difficult it is to get that score.

Re: Score % of Record Holder

Well somewhat. What that formula tells you is that you did better than PR% of the people that have played the song. An AAA would automatically give you a 100%, a boo flag and black flag would recieve a 99%, and it would go down from there. This is the correct formula that should be used in the context of what the current % of highest score is. This formula could also be incorporated in the overall site stats to give a person a % view of where they stand with their stats.

I really didn't know why there was a 0.5E there. XD

The formula is perfect! I can't really see any major flaws in it at all other than the amount of players. If we get under 100 players on a song, it starts to get a bit off.

I did some research and the .5E is there because of when you graph it on the standard curve. It gives a lower score when there is a larger number of scores equal to x. Try running an equation with a lot of the same score using the .5 and not using it. you will see the difference. I don't know what else to say about it. If you dont want it there it really isnt necessary to have it unless you start getting a lot of the same scores besides AAAs.
