    Spyware on Skill Token page.

    Hello,

I just wanted to alert the admins that the advertising on the skill token page contains spyware/and or adware. It brought up a notification window saying that I have been infected and need to download the program.

Obviously, I haven't been infected, but I would say that if you were to click OK on the window, it would redirect you.

    Just a warning.

    Didn't happen for me..
The only ad on that page is the one on the left, and it's almost always the same.

any shot you SSed the ad? otherwise..... we really have very little control over the ads shown.

Though it would be nice if the only "ads" we had were ones that actually advertised some service or product. "You win! click to get your prize!" "ads" are just annoying spamvertisement that almost certainly involve adware or spyware

There's also an ad at the top.

If you're a suscriber, I believe there will be no more ads.

Actually this is a fairly major problem affecting a lot of websites. There's this guy/company who signs up and advertises like a honest company then inserts some crazy code into the ad. If it happens again please try to get a screenshot like tass suggested or better yet, if you are good with networking, find out the urls it uses.

The problem with embedded content. I assumed for things like ads, that the company would -give- you the ad to run so you could look it over.

It's like the guy on Livejournal a while ago who made some stupid "what crappy colour-coded nonsense are you" meme, and let it propogate through LJ for a few weeks, then changed the image to goatse.

Since everyone just hotlinked his results, they all got switched over.

Re: Spyware on Skill Token page.

We have annoyingly little control over the specific ads that are shown... we merely get to pick and choose amongst campaigns that the ad companies we work with are offering. Then almost no control within the campaign.

It's why we're working to, trying to, doing what we can... etc etc... to change the ad companies we're working with, change the ads we're displaying, the type, the method... all so that we can make the experience better for the users while still being able to maintain the site.

                      I don't think it's Spyware, perse.

I got this a couple days ago, and if I remember correctly, it was a BHO from Google. Just deny it and be on with your day. Nothing malicious...unless BHO's are Spyware, and I'm clueless, which is entirely possible.

                            Here's a solution...
                            Ignore it.

BHOs COULD be spyware. At least Ad-Aware 2008 detect some of them as spyware (TAC rating of 3... not a big problem)
