The issue is of nostalgia and pride/bragging rights vs. more friendly and more consistent with the majority of other FFR songs. It's been discussed time and again, for example, removing the background for Party 4 U. I don't recall any of this class of discussions ever getting anywhere. So...
I don't think it's really necessary for Silence as much. It would be easier, no doubt, but it's other songs that need to be note-skinned. I can't recall any names off the top of my head, but some of them have patterns that are awkward without note skins. I think the songs that suddenly go into 12th notes should be skinned, and the songs that have sections with awkward timing with 16th notes with irregular rests in between. So, as long as it's mostly just straight 4th notes, or straight 8th notes, or straight 16th note streams, it should be left alone. I think the rule of thumb should be: If you can easily tell what each note is supposed to be without music or memorization of steps, it doesn't need note skins.
