It just seems to be the case that the main reason people good enough for TP like the TP is as much for the relative exclusivity as for the ability to gauge their skill level.

it is a common trait among the most skilled of any system. I bet if they were completely honest, tier 0 players wish getting tier points would be even harder, so the idea of a lower tier that is easier to get can come across as a devaluing of the existing system.

I'd suggest that an ATP system would peak out at one tier below the bottom rung of the Tier Point system (Which iirc would make the best ATP tier be Tier 5)

If/When this goes through, can it be set so you can still see your ATP list even if you aren't allowed on the ATP Top Players List? This would give some of the non-ATP players (such as myself) incentive to go whore easier songs, and still be able to see the progress they're making.

As this was my idea, I'm being pro-active and getting this done. I'll get the names of all the songs from 4-8 difficulty in the first post. Anyone who supports this can do reqs for them, I'll do them as well. PM me, AIM me, do whatever, just get them to me.

After I've got them all, I'll send a text file to LD. Get to it.

It wouldn't make a difference to you (Sprite) if it wasn't implemented, but there are a lot of people that would really appreciate this.

It isn't going to be dealt with manually.. It's going to be implemented and done automatically.

Fine by me. And Sprite? This whole month is New User Skill Token Month. That will probably involve a lot of people as well. Go complain about that.

I like this idea, but maybe you should make it so only people with no tier points and no challenging+FC's can make the list. Also the difficulties should be like tricky-Very Difficult so that not everyone can get points like free space rofl.

Ok, since this was revived, I'll show my support. I like the idea. People who don't have the skill to FC+ Challenging songs really should try this. It's a great idea and kudos to the originator.

This really only has a point if it's including Skill Token songs.

Again, if you can AAA a song, then the tier points for that song is a given. I don't really understand the need to have two different ways to essentially measure the same thing. Your average rank does a great job showing how talented at the game you are.

And at this rate, why don't we just make a Tier Point for every song.

Well as has been used previously in the thread, there are users who CAN'T get the tier points for the songs already made. So we make some easier ones for them. But, this probably wouldn't be implemented in the database. It would have to be put into a thread and updated.

This is definitely a good thing for the casual players, as it sets them concrete progressive targets without having to aim for Tier Points right away. I'd imagine amateur tier points to be like the kyu/dan system in games like go and shogi, letting new players in at the lowest level and gradually working up to the pro tiers.

Personally, I like devonin's idea of topping out the system just below Tier 4. Not just because I consider myself borderline "Tier 5", but it provides a more or less seamless transition from top amateur to pro level.

I have the amateur tier point system done. I've been trying to catch Jimerax online to have him look it over, but so far I've been unsuccessful. It covers the 5-8 difficulty song range (like Tier Points does the 9-12) and if they like it, I can have a beginner tier point system for the 1-4's done relatively quickly also.
