Well I thought, since there are about 4286 tourneys going on, that it'd be nice if we could somehow put a check mark or something, to indicate that we're in that tourney so we would know which ones we're still in and such.

i think its a bad idea going in more than one or two tournements in the first place. But i might be wrong.

You can subscribe to specific threads and they'll show up in a list in the user control panel. Just tick the box to subscribe and the thread will be added to your subscribed thread list.
