So, as a preamble, here is my understanding of R1 timing:
The game runs at 30 fps, and arrows lie in certain frames. Timing for these frames is as follows:
Average
Good
Perfect
Perfect
Perfect
Good
My suggestion is to change this up slightly... to say:
Average
Good
Perfect
Flashing Perfect
Perfect
Good
A few pros of this setup:

A few pros of this setup:
- Allows more differentiation between scores. Especially in tournament situations, it would eliminate the need to have tie-breaks resulting from AAA-ties.
- Some experienced players would enjoy the game much more if they could see a better breakdown of the timing. As well, players would probably improve faster.
- One could give bonuses (whether in the form of credits or additional score) to players who AAA depending on the number of FPs they get. Of course, regular scores would be calculated just in terms of perfects, but there could be a "subscore" (kind of like IIDX's EX score) to help differentiate scores.
