heh. I've been having fun making random accounts and then leveling them up to like 12 in 20 games. So amusing, and lets me play easier files that I normally would never play again.
they could have a playlist like halo and you would get matched up with a person around the same leval as you.
it would match you up with them, and you would play.
How about setting up more than one MP lobby.
Like in SMO, an Advanced Lobby and also a Beginner Lobby, yet with restrictions.
Beginner Lobby- Levels 1-13 would be allowed, that would be it.
Expert Lobby- Levels 14-Max would be allowed, no one under 14.
Don't know how hard this would be to implement for LD, but it sounds reasonable. And also, if this were possible, a seperate MP chat would be necessary, due to the complaints from people being seperated from others who they talk to.
Yes this may complicate things, but with the Packet editing and the cosmetic hacking going on lately, what would stop someone from changing their level from 1 to 18 and enter a room to spam. If there was some direct access to a lobby connected directly from stats from the user, this wouldn't allow people to enter rooms because their levels would not be read from what is shown in MP.

EDIT: Wow, that complicates things. Rofl.
Hmm...I like that, but I have some friends with higher level, and I really enjoy chatting with them. I also have some friend who have been here for a while, and have never done multiplayer, so they're level 1, but they are WAY better. Do you guys see what I'm saying? It reminds me of when I started. I went into every multiplayer room, and all but one left. Then a level 7 decided to play FF7 with me. I schooled him, then he left, then a level 9 came in. Played FF7, they lost, they left. A fellow level 1 came in (I was now level 2) We played about 5 rounds before we had to leave.
So what I'm saying is that there are many good players out there who are level 1 on MP, and people won't play them, because they think those people are n00bs. I really have never liked the idea...or if it HAD to happen, I think there should be 1 chat lobby, and 2 (or more) game lobbies.
I like your idea Scottish, but I think it would need to be more like this:
Beginner: Level 1-15 to play
Expert: Level 13+ to play
Notice the overlap zone so that way there is a transitional period, and also (if we went by Scottish's) is you just got level 14 you would have to go to the expert lobby but if you lost your first game you would have to go back to the beginner.
Also I think there should be no level requirements for the lobbies, just for the games from that lobby.
Or we can just go with the original idea and set parameters with the games themself.
