short freezing causes steps to be off beat

when I play on any computer, the steps freeze fast but a bunch of times over the song and that causes the steps to be way off beat. I also think that you should try to fix it so that the song slows with the steps and vice versa so that that doesnt happen

RE: short freezing causes steps to be off beat

well, since that isn't supposed to happen, there is no reason to fix it... it must be something fishy on your end. haven't had any other reports of such an issue, nor have i experienced it myself...

make sure that you aren't running a ton of other programs while playing, make sure you have the latest Flash plugin, and makesure your computer isn't a POS (ffr just won't run well on a slow computer)

It's almost as if the step file isn't attached to the music file

well, the stepfile is attached to the music.

some of the stepfiles are offbeat... but its not by much. its very difficult to accurately sync songs using flash. so, the songs that are 2+ years old are a little offbeat, which the songs that are 6 months - 1 year old are generally not offbeat.

I have to back this guy up. I'm having the same problem -- songs that used to be in excellent sync like Green Twilight are totally out of sync now. I've cleared my cache and restarted, but to no avail.

Yeah, I seem to be having this problem, too. I don't remember it being like this before. True, some songs were always a bit more off-beat than others. But it looks like now things end up drifting off-beat. I just went through Secret Zombie Room and by the end, the music was leading the arrows by maybe half a beat. The only real change I remember making to my system was to update the video drivers so that I could play StepMania. They are modified ones because, unfortunately, my laptop's manufacturer doesn't have a driver more recent than about 2 years old. I thought that might be part of the problem, but if others are having it, too, I guess it's not just me.

My computer is a few years old, but I don't think it's *that* horrible. It was playing FFR pretty well before, except for occasional pauses I couldn't do anything about. I want a new computer, but can't afford it yet so I have to make do with what I have. Please don't mock my system if you have something fabulous; I can't do anything about mine at the moment. Anyway, the basic stats I guess you'd want to know -- 800 MHz Pentium III, 256 MB RAM, 16 MB nVidia GeForce2 Go video card, running WinME. (I don't update the OS unless I really have to and I have a good enough reason for me not to upgrade this one if I can avoid doing so.)

Why now and not on the previous version then?

Yeah, FFR worked beautifully just one week ago. Now every song is off beat. What's going on here?

For me, the music is behind the arrows by maybe a second. The song starts that way and ends that way -- which makes things very hard .

Realized the source of the problem. I had just switched to Firefox; I think it worked at first, but then it started going screwy. Anyways, switching back to Internet Explorer fixed it.

You guys may want to investigate Mozilla compatibility.

Oh, maybe Nehron's figured it out. I decided to start using Firefox after I read about the huge gaping security flaws in IE that remained unfixed. I didn't expect changing the browser to affect how a flash game ran, but I guess it is.

Hmm. Maybe that's not all there is to it. I just tried it in IE and Secret Zombie Room did the same thing, by the time I got to the end, the sound was leading the arrows by about half a beat. Then it's got to be either the modified video drivers I'm using in order to get StepMania to work or it's some bug in FFR itself. I'm not sure which.

maybe you had a lot of programs running and the sound just was lagging.
