    Rock songs to consider...

Just some suggestions for rock songs with good beats:

-Thunderstruck by AC/DC <----Could easily be hardest one in the Rock section
    -Fuel by Metallica
-Whiskey in the Jar by Metallica
    -Iornman by Black Sabbath
    -Enter Sandman by Metallica
    -Crazy Train by Ozzy
-Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple
    -Perry Mason by Ozzy

Those are just ones with damn good beats. I guess if anyone else has suggestions...

If only Eruption by Van Halen had a throughout drum track.. that would make a great one.

Stratovarius - Stratosphere would work perfect for a superfast song, though it's roughly 5 minutes long.. I suppose you could always fade it out after 2 or 3 though. Something to consider.

If I could obtain the rights to the songs to make the files for them I would, but, yeah.
A little story: I know some people who are making a brand new PC dancing game. They are still in development, but the producer went to Sony to talk about licensing. He asked about licensing an Offspring song and few others...Sony wanted over $20,000 PER SONG to cover the royalties...yeah...I don't have that kind a money and I don't think Synth does either.

Well, are you guys planning on making a profit off of this?

I have serious doubts how much they would care, and if they did all you would have to do is remove the songs in question if they ever claimed and say you are sorry.

It seems to me this can only be costing money, not making any, and because of that I doubt they will care much.

I don't think it could hurt to use them, and then just go with it. If they contact you about it, just appologize and take them down.

I don't think Synth wants to risk getting in legal trouble because of using copyright tracks without permission. Always better safe than sorry.

It is really a difficult decision. Masamax, if I asked you for your real name and address and then posted that all possible legal action would be considered your responsibility and that Konami would hold you accountable, would you be comfortable with that? Sometimes companies don't give a slap on the wrist. Are you willing to take the risk?

I respect Konami and think they have made a wonderful series of arcade games. The last thing I want to do is upset them.

              Cheers,

You'll be happy to know that I have coded atleast one of the songs on that list, Masamax - and about copyright, It really isnt to much of an issue I dont think, Of course the rules woud be totaly different if it was a case of distribution, but it is not. Look at the radio, every major radio station in the world (except the shitty news ones) wud b closed if it was an issue to play out live tracks, of course - if the radio stations offered to send their entire playlists to everyone that listens for no apparent reason, this would be different. Worst comes to th worst, the game needs to get cut back and the songs deleted - the only real issue is that the record ndustried may be apprehensive about where the song came from, in which case proof of purchase of the album the song was fom is all thats needed, be it heavy metal or a soundtrack - it wont cost too much to buya single CD to shut them up... I wouldnt worry about it, and as such three rock songs aytleast should be going up soon, thre are a few threads in the main forum about this

I wouldn't be comfortable with my name and address up in the public not because that I think they will take action, but because I don't want to be spammed and stuff.

The thing is, in reality, they probably won't give a damn. There are plenty of flash games with unlicensed copyrighted music in them, but I haven't heard of any action against them.

Ussually liscensing would mean a record company would get royalties, perhaps per game sold, but you are not planning on making this commercial as far as I can see, so it's a non-issue.

Web sites by the thousands get shut down everyday on hosts like tripod because of copyright infringements. The only reason you don't hear about them is because CNN would rather report on Dianna's love letters. Just like you don't hear about the thousands of murders that happen each day.

To me, the risk is not very high. I am more worried about konami than I am about other companies. While our intent is good no matter which way you look at it, I don't feel that I am willing to lose this site due to a couple songs/steps. If you would be patient with me and wait around, you will see some spectacular features we have planned for everyone down the road.

It's a good debate.. But I ultimately make the rules and pay for mistakes.

                      Cheers,

So true, and we respect all of your decisions because of that truth.
Signature is optional, I didnt opt for one.

Heck, is there a way to check if there is a song that's not on one of those games?

                            Well...

I suppose you could record covers of songs, or maybe we can just make entirely new ones..

I am working with a getting rights from a few bands right now. Nestlekwik was going to look into getting rights from a few local bands as well. It is such a temptation to use copyrighted music without asking the authors but I think it is only right.

Argh, temptation sucks the big one..
