Yeah your actual average rank has to be under 1000. It just so happens that your average rank listed in order, is the 999th average rank

Actually it gets easier because new songs these days don't even get 1000 plays, and they also dilute any super high ranks by 1 more song, so it's a net gain as time goes on.

But the number of total song plays it takes goes up. The skill ceiling slowly drops, the time ceiling slowly climbs.

It basically depends on how long it takes a new song to reach your avrank prior to the addition of the song to start negatively affecting it, until then it actually has a positive impact.


The curve obviously varies depending on avrank and can be days for a high D7 player, where it's actually an eternity for a low D1 player.
Depends on the popularity of the song of course, but the average turnaround time for a song getting to 1000 unique players seems to be about 12-18 months after some quick spot checking.

So in the short term, it's beneficial to you that new songs get added, but after a pretty long while, it starts having a minor negative impact instead.

Basically its both bad and good. More songs to play but unless the rank of the song goes above your av rank it doesnt hurt it at all. Even being unplayed and at rank 100 wont really do much damage. Thats why improving the bottom of your levelranks is so beneficial.
