Unknown and supposedly.
We're still using the same HDD on the server since 2006 with our amazing 80gb of space. The site has gone down so many times in the last few months because we've run out of space. As it stands we have about 3gb left before the server crashes for it's final time. Synth apparently had a new server and new HDD for the last several years but has never gotten around to ever installing it.

I'm actually pretty sure there isn't any law(s) that would prevent us from starting something like FFR2.com. Just adding the 2 alone makes it something different entirely and it wouldn't be copyright infringement of Synth's property. I'm sure there are people in the community, myself included, who would help finance something like that if it meant better service and a website that wasn't constantly on the verge of death. Hell I'll even send whoever a 4tb harddrive so we never have to worry about it again

That honestly seems like the best option given that there still hasn't been anything concrete from Synth that we know of.

I think it was said that Synthlight already had a spare hard drive but didn't took the time to install it.

Besides, copyright laws are complex. I don't think anyone could start a business under the name KFC2 and sell fast-food without being sued.

I read a bit more about this and it's called the trademark law. To resume, the trademark law is designed to avoid consumer confusion over the trademarks that businesses or other organizations use in connection with their goods and services. A distinction is made when two companies aren't in the same field and so FFR (the retail display products company) couldn't sue FlashFlashRevolution because their field of services are unrelated.
