it's more like you know this community has millions of alts from perma'd people who are just gonna rape the system

That's fine honestly, it's just a subjective rating anyway.
What I'm afraid of though, is that people would abuse this feature and waste their time making multiple accounts to like/dislike a particular chart.

Or people will downvote because they disliked the song but the chart was good. Or upvote because they like the song but the chart was bad.
Or people will downvote because bias against a particular kind of music. Or perhaps down/upvote because of bias for the step artist.
Thing is there's going to be so much bias in this, ... it just isn't going to be a good indicator of "good" or "bad" -ness of a chart or song.
Every rating is subjective, no matter how different we might approach at it. We at least need the community to do something more for the game, rating simfiles are a good way to start.

it's also about as irrelevant as profile votes, plus we have a really nice spreadsheet thread going that accomplishes this same goal but in a really less trolly manner.
This "trolly manner" will be the same if a like/dislike option does happen.
I'm all for it. But, personnally, I find the like/dislike system not enough precise.
With a system of rankings, you can see what is your favorite simfile. This could be included in the levelranks also. You could see what files you have rated.
The spreadsheet system would most likely bore/annoy particular members with a short attention span. For something so much simpler, we could let a 1-10 rating system be implemented to the FFR Song List or have them beside each simfile in the game engines. Now, to avoid a certain amount of people who might go out of their way to rate every simfile a "1," they should have to play through the whole song first in order to do so (even then it might not keep them away but we do need precautions).
he's a good way to counter the whole "make a million profiles to dislike one file"
you can only rate files if your username is BLUE (forget the amount of points that is in your grand total). this way it gives people a reason to want to play the game more, and it stops people from trolling one simfile.
Why not just make everybody simfile judges instead? Isn't this what they're for?

The blues are some of the hugest trolls on this site. Regardless, this is a bad idea. If this system came to be, everyone should be able to vote, not just an elitist group.
who would really make tons of profiles just to downvote a file lmao
At this point I'm pretty sure you know that there are a number of users who would indeed go to this length. If people already do this for profile votes, then voting for songs is no less applicable.
As long as everyone is biased, the result will be accurate
I'm not sure what this is but it isn't sound logic.
This makes the incredible assumption that bias will be perfectly (or at least close to it) evenly distributed. Such a nearly perfect distribution of bias is incredibly unlikely. You're more likely to draw a number [1, 1000] out of a hat one time only and get exactly 315.
The problem is you are assuming the bias is perfectly random. It is not. For the same reason if you have 10 people - 7 tall guys 1 tall girl 2 short guys, and everyone is biased, you'll end up with the "agreement" that is most favorable to tall people and to males.
It's a good idea, but it should also come with a comments system of some sort so that users/staff can see whether or not the reason for giving a rating (more specifically, a poor rating on a good file, or a good rating on a poorly stepped file like vROFL for example) is legitimate.
Yeah comment walls for level stat pages will be way more useful than just ratings/votes, the only issue will be we need to moderate them (aka needs man power).
