i feel i can play better and more accurate with my right hand, but trilling its either perfect or WTFAMIDOINGTHISISHORRIBLE. I thinkg its just when you know its coming, mental blocks, you tense up because you tell yourself you will mess up. which is why when i sightread a song its usually my best play on the song.

Is it bad if I use AA's? haha....I can't find AAA's. So AA's will have to work. Ehh this hurts. I just tried playing EHHS with them on...epic failure.

I'll recommend the same thing I recommend in cases like these; change your key setup. I know it sounds like an absolute pain, but your fingers may just be uncomfortable in their current position.

If you have a setup like a,s,k,l, you're bending your middle finger too much to accommodate that setup. Try something more ergonomic like q,s,l,p. It doesn't have to be those exact keys, but try a similar setup anywhere on your keyboard and see the difference in comfort.

            q,s,l,p?

It feels weird, but now I know I have to try it.

Or anything similar. My exact setup is u, k, numpad5, numpad9. I realize some people don't have a numpad because they're on a laptop, but... yeah, try something like that.

                I use s,d and o, ;

The only weird bend of your middle finger is if you put your middle finger on the home row. Using z,x and . / gets rid of that bend too. Actually, as long as keep your fingers more upright, you can have your middle finger on any key, put then your wrists get tired from the weird position.

I use qslp. It helped me greatly with trills when I switched to it. But I still have bad weaknesses with them, just not as bad as I used to have before I switched.

Ok, I modified my setup by switching to other keys that need less force in order to register, and now my right hand trills and is faster and like more flexible than my left hand. lol

By the way, I still havn't found any tape! This is prepostorous! I saw it somewhere a couple of hours ago...

Does anyone still play with their left middle on left arrow, left index on down arrow, right index on up arrow, and right middle on right arrow? I started off with all fingers on the arrow keys, but moved my right hand to the numpad later, and haven't changed since then. I guess this is sorta related since all these different setups are coming up. I'm at the level where I can fc pretty much all very challenging songs, some fmo songs (like 4 chord touhou), and do almost all parts of fgo songs (can do all of almost there except for that 32nd stream (lots of orange notes).

My right hand trills and left hand trills are about the same....maybe if I change my setup they'll improve? Or will only my left hand improve (lol I guess that would be better than neither of them improving).

Re: [Help] FFR Trills (right hand)

@Sprite-: I assumed the exact same thing but for some reason it's the complete opposite. Have you considered the "spazzing" thing i mentioned? My left hand trills faster because i can like... make it go crazy. But my right hand has no chance at this.

@kmay: I've thought about this as well. Often times if i've playing a song that's about to have a RH trill, because I KNOW it's coming, I fear that I'm subconsciencely tensing up... resulting in the aforementioned fail. This is a problem which I have absolutely NO idea how to remedy.

@ Zybanthia: I've considered this. I used to play left, down, 8, 6, but now i play z,x,.,/, But, back when i played with the numpad, I wasn't playing any songs that had any hard trills in them. Over the next few days I'll try some new setups and see if it changes anything. But to be honest, my current setup feels the most comfortable to me. I do notice that when i DO find that my right hand is essentially dying, that the muscles in the right arm are VERY tense, and I've always wondered "why the hell isn't my left arm tense?"

@ cedolad: the s,d,o,; setup seems very awkward to me for my right hand. Is it for you?

@sprite again, when exactly did you make that switch?

I used to play with the arrows and the keypad, left, down, and then 8, 6. My keyboard was moving too much, so I spread it out more, the only comfortable position was s, d o ; and it worked fine. But it got hard.
