I know I created another thread about it, but I don't want to just avoid getting mental blocks, I want to defeat them. I used to be able to AAA the first 572 notes of Novo Mundo very easily, but now I get at least 4 goods 90% of time. I really want to be able to play naturally again, without doing stupid mistakes, is it possible?

Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
Possible? Yes.
But really, the answer to a question like that differs from person to person, so the best thing to do is to try different things. Just look at other threads concerning this question and try their solutions out. Loads of other threads concerning this topic.
I avoid mental blocks by not playing the same song over and over again. I get mental blocks by playing the same song over and over again. Quite simple. Habits are formed from repetition.
With the notion that mental blocks are habits, habits are usually broken by overriding it with a new one. Hence, to defeat mental blocks, the easiest thing to do is to play a different song over and over again.Last edited by Karimono; 01-8-2009, 09:30 AM. -
Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
Forget about the song for as long as you can then come back to it. You won't remember where everything is, thus no mental blocks.
I don't know if not playing ffr or just playing as many different songs as possible will help morePatashu makes Chiptunes in Famitracker:

Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
A lot of people just leave the song for a while or use mirror. I have never used mirror so i will leave someone else to explain.Frank Lee Morris

Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
I don't really get mental blocks because if I want to AAA a song I set auto fail and I don't stop until I get it. But, if I were you I'd just play a whole variety of other songs then come back and try that one again.

Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
Some video cards allow you to rotate your screen. Rotate the screen, play on downscroll and remap your keys.
Another thing that works for some people is to play some SM and then go back to FFR. It always increased my PA dramatically, at least temporarily.
Yeah, and like other people have said, whoring a song can lead to mental blocks. Just play on random for a while or something.

Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
Mental blocks all over Hardkore Atomic, Crowdpleaser, and Novo Mundo.
I hate them so much. I find the best way to get out of them is to avoid playing that song regularly, or to, like said by Blu, rotating the screen. and switching to downscroll.Originally posted by PhynxI'm a total asshole, if I had the chance to shove a razor blade dildo up your ass... Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
Everyone should play with reverse to begin with. It's the best.

Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
I play reverse, it's impossible for me to play well in any other configuration.
I guess i'll just leave Novo Mundo alone for now.jnbidevniuhyb scores: Nomina Nuda Tenemus 1-0-0-0, Anti-Ares 1-0-0-0

Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
I play reverse as well, but that's not really the secret to mirror.
A "mental block" is simply a bad habit; you've learned a part of the song wrong, and all you need to do is analyze what you're doing wrong. Pay close attention to the part you messing up on, or watch a replay to see exactly what's going on there.
Still, it's generally not a good idea to play a song over and over again anyway. You'll get tired of it, and it'll take the fun out of it.Comment

Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
I only develop mental blocks when I play a song too much in a short span of time. That happens to me a lot in tourneys and stuff, but when I play it a few weeks later, I can do it fine.
Take a break from playing that song, and come back later. We climb up a lot of ladders, and fall down a lot of chutes.Originally posted by Gundam-Dudemy semen is flying through the air as we speak

Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
I try to analyze, but most of the time I can't avoid moving my finger too fast and hitting an arrow too early (those streams in Novo Mundo are TOO SLOW, but they still can't be treated like 8ths, so it's very hard to get used to them).I play reverse as well, but that's not really the secret to mirror.

When I do the part correctly, I usually miss another part due to stress.
A few days ago, I managed to get near the end of the song without getting any goods, but then my mother came and shouted at me to stop tapping...jnbidevniuhyb scores: Nomina Nuda Tenemus 1-0-0-0, Anti-Ares 1-0-0-0

Re: How can I overcome mental blocks?
Why not practice other slow songs around that speed, then? Moonbeam and tribal revival come to mind.Patashu makes Chiptunes in Famitracker:
