Any better way to hit the keys?

I've been playing for at least 4 months now and I figure NOW is the time I should learn how to hit the keys better. As of right now...

    Index is left
    Middle is Up & Down
    Ring is right.

I want to change this because: A) I am slow going middle to ring back and forth. B) I cannot do Up while holding down in stepfiles, and vice versa. C) I just want to know a better way.

So... is there a better way? I'd like to know. I know it's all basically what feels right to you, no need to say responses like that. I just want to hear what your way is.

My better way is to use 4 fingers on 2 hands. (Indexes and Middle)

My favourite way is to use the number pad... one finger for each key...

Everyone also likes me using the numberpad cause they all get to flame and call me a n00b for using the numberpad.

Two handed is the best way to go usually:
        Left middle finger on left
        Left index finger on down
        Right index finger on up
        Right middle finger on right.
Takes a little time to get used to but the results are great.
One day there will be a really cool sig here. But not right now.

Use whatever is comfortable. Other than that, no.

Alrighty then. I'll just stick with what I got, considering two replies were 2-handed ideas. The object was the right way, not the cheap way.

I've tried the numpad before, and it just doesn't work out. I can't get to the "2" like I should be able to.

I think I broke my wrist playing this game. Or at least it has quickened my chances of getting Carpal Tunnel.

I use the method described by ultima. It serves me well.

You can play one handed, as you are, with your two indexes, or with four fingers. One handed can do pretty much any pattern, but it's slow. Indexes are very fast, but have trouble with turns and spins. Four fingers don't have much trouble with anything. It's just a matter of personal preference... I use one hand, myself.

I once played on the same way as you Squeek, but I had trouble in the fast turns,
so I changed the style to 2-hands 4-fingers.

Technically, you're using 1 too many fingers then.
DDR is played with your 2 feet, so the "right" way to play this would be with 2 fingers. So now that your theory's shot to hell, find whatever playing style works best for you. 1 handed is the hardest to be good at fast stepfiles with, 2 fingers makes you look incredibly l33t if you can get up to the abilities of arch/volkov, and 4 fingers makes everything easier except for 424242's and 868686's

And freak, using your thumb is dumb -_-

Yeah, there is no right or wrong way to key-tap.

One handed is the most challenging.
Indexes are still challenging, but way easier than one handed.
                        Two handed is just hax.

you can hit up holding the down arrow. don't make excuses, if you want to stick with 1 hand you'll have to push your hand alot in order to gain speed and control over the keys.

But I would reccommend 2 handed play.

I use both index fingues when playing and it works fine for me. Though I think I'm going to try Ultima's way soon after the tournement to see if it works better ^_^ .

i just started this to and i think Index is left
is just about the best way Middle is Up & Down
                              Ring is right.
