Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
To be honest, Out of all the sharpnel songs, Im so happy that strawbarry sweetz came out. Its probably the best sharpnel song in the game and definatly my favoite, but the sim is definatly to hard for what the song really is. The file covers everything in the song, but really shouldn't of. There are a lot of aspects of the song that the song covered that really should of just been left alone really. So in this case to me, the technicality although correct, ruined the file for me. Should at least be an FMO if stepped the way I imagined. In final thought, the file is really a stamina/endurence file and those files (Archowl's Silence) SUX, but its the song that keeps me from saying that about the file ironically.
Strawbarry is long, but really, how can you cut the song. The entire song, all parts of the song if cut, would really ruin the essence of the song. Its like watching a movie and when like the climax comes, the movie turns into a commercial. If cut, the song and the file would just feel awkward. Im happy it wasn't cut.
Although we may not get a repeat of SSH all the time like sharpnel Shash, I believe he ment the genra of music. And yes, I believe we are starting to hit that point about guitar/touhou music. But, as long as they are VC-FGO songs and I can rack up to 2 mil + points, Ill still keep playing them.
Dissconnected Hardcore: I think if I sent mine in, it probably would of beat Dore's fun wise. I watched some replays (Another token which is in my scope of skill, but those gay quick rolls in Hardkore Atomic only got me as close as 23 boos), there were a lot of iffy parts that just didn't look to right. More could of been stepped to, but considering the speed of the song and FFRize, its probably alright. More jumps could serve this file more justice.
Edit: I know I spelled Strawberry wrong. HEHE Get it?Last edited by operationstrawbarry; 08-2-2008, 06:53 PM.Comment

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
I assume you're referring to dBu, but that isn't a fair comparison...dBu files don't play anything like SSH files in my experience, and the styles are incredibly different from one another. The only thing in FFR I'd call somewhat similar to SSH's style is Powerglove, aka Mario Minor. And "guitar" music grouped together as a genre is pretty much the same thing as "piano" or "synth" music grouped together, waaaay too broad. And yes, I believe we are starting to hit that point about guitar/touhou music.
dBu is as similar to SSH to me as Sharpnel is to MOSAIC.Last edited by Shashakiro; 08-2-2008, 06:59 PM.4th Official FFR Tournament - Master division champion!

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
please. they're all weeaboo music. dbu, ssh, sharpnel, mosaic, etc etc... in the not-tunnel vision real world of music, they're all the same genre of music. in the tunnel vision world of FFR, each one gets picked apart for it's tiny nuancecal differences.

i could go off all about different 80s hard rock bands and how they're all different... but to some of you guys, you'd say "they're all the same!" we all have special passions and love in our hearts for the specific type of music we like best. but nobody else gives a **** and lumps them all together.
we have a few main groups of music on FFR... japanese-based music (anime and touhou remixes, mostly). indie techno/electronic music. arcade remixes (some of the japanese-based music would also fall in this category). rock music (emo, hardcore, alternative, metal, etc). and then maybe classical, but that's a lot smaller than the others. then everything else.
and, what do ya know... what are the types of music our userbase likes the best? *gasp* the ones listed above! and, many times, the group of users who like 1 group of music don't like the others. it's really how amazing things can be when we simplify it.RIPComment

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
Sorry to interrupt your discussion but I thought I should give my thoughts on some songs. ^_^
Sakura no Kenshi - I love the way it is stepped, it's one of my favorite "long" songs.
Mario Minor - Great song, if I could jack I would love it even more.
Chariot - Just fc'ed it, awesome streams.
Mute City Remix - Cool song, but wayyyy to easy to be a very challenging. It is definitely fun but should be a challenging song.
Caprice - Really cool steps, remove the background and re-note skin it and I'll like it even more.
X-Tinction - I think it should be an FMO, the awkward streams and rolls are harder than None Would Escape.
Jelly Roll Blues - name is fun, song is fun, steps are fun.
That's all for now.

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
I played Mate. The other one is called Carnival, which I find to be a much better game.
+1, dBu =/= SSH, Sharpnel =/= MOSAIC.I assume you're referring to dBu, but that isn't a fair comparison...dBu files don't play anything like SSH files in my experience, and the styles are incredibly different from one another. Yes, quite. The only thing we can do about it is to be as open-minded as you are.please. they're all weeaboo music. dbu, ssh, sharpnel, mosaic, etc etc... in the not-tunnel vision real world of music, they're all the same genre of music. in the tunnel vision world of FFR, each one gets picked apart for it's tiny nuancecal differences.

I don't not like Touhou music, and I don't like the idea of cutting music. However, I am getting tired of dBu Touhou in FFR, how it's currently being used.
Finally, I want to know some of these "styles" that these songs have been getting. Describe the following:
Touhou 1/2 (wtf is 2, vs 1 lol) (Yes both Kil Stage and Glove Sweden is by Kil... and?)
Jpop Plus (Plus... what) (Love Cheat, Mate, Radio, and the like should all be akiba-pop anyway)
Theme (however much broader can this get in respect to what it could mean)
Sexy (Hadazamui Rittou) (exactly how or why)
There were some others, but I forgot them.Any FFR song title discrepancies? List them here.

+1, seriously, Mosaic.wav are mainly Akiba pop (not to mention half of their song are named : We love AKIBA-pop, Future-fiction AKIBA-pop, AKIBA-pop the future etc....) Hadazamui is not sexy, I like Touhou 2 (dont know why) but i dont know what it means

Re: Ingame Songs/Stepfiles Discussion Thread
Touhou 1 / 2: Genre is stated as "touhou STG" on kil's muzie page; since both songs are literally the same, with the difference being that one song's melody is in a different key, they're labelled as "1" and "2" respectivelyTouhou 1/2 (wtf is 2, vs 1 lol) (Yes both Kil Stage and Glove Sweden is by Kil... and?)
Jpop Plus (Plus... what) (Love Cheat, Mate, Radio, and the like should all be akiba-pop anyway)
Theme (however much broader can this get in respect to what it could mean)
Sexy (Hadazamui Rittou) (exactly how or why)
Jpop Plus: In reference to Mate and Radio. I'll make considerations to akiba-pop; thanks for that
Theme: Genre is stated as "theme" on Glome's website.
Sexy: I didn't do this rofl! Originally was "experimental", but someone changed it just for laughs.
So yes, I'm the one listing up most of the styles (genres). Since I can't possibly know of every subgenre beforehand, it's nice to hear what others have to say*. Thanks for the feedback.
*This is why I don't usually determine song styles for most rock songs, especially widget ones. Since a lot of people here like rock, and they're more selective about specific genres, I'm not really the person to make accurate decriptions of those songs (I rarely listen to mainstream rock).Last edited by bmah; 08-4-2008, 11:42 PM.Comment
