    Does Stepmania make you better?

So I heard playing stepmania a lot makes you a hell of a lot better at ffr.

What I really need is this, stepmania, the settings that you play on, (some peoples arrows look different),and all the songs that I should play to make me better.

Is it really true, that stepmania makes you better on FFR, if so why?

Stepmania definitely makes you better. First off, there are more files out there. There's more of a selection of files for you to play and practice on, developing your skills. There are more options available for you to work with. The hardest files in Stepmania go way beyond the hardest files in FFR. A lot of "easy" files in Stepmania are on par with the hard files in FFR. Stepmania also utilizes holds- this can help you with your reading ability. I can go on and on, but I think this is sufficient.

I play on C705 (constantly increasing) orbular. Orbular is a new noteskin- instead of arrows, they're circles. It helps many people, especially with MA.

From what I've seen, stepmania doesn't make you better. FFR makes you worse. Stepmania is the given normal standard.

I second omgitznpv, but he left out one small detail. After you play SM for a while, as your Marvelous Attack increases further and further, you become adjusted to the marvelous timing window, which is a middle perfect in FFR. This can cause you to hit a lot of goods if you hit arrows in FFR even a little bit late.

I play both SM and FFR every day, so I can switch my timing seamlessly between the two. Other than that, he's right. I've seen a MASSIVE increase in my skill and accuracy ever since I began playing SM.

Download sm 3.9 or 3.95 instead. sm 4 is still in beta so there are still bugs.

I had been playing only stepmania for about 4 months

then i started playing ffr again, and not only my pa/ma, but also my comboing had significantly gotten worse.

Actually, the Marvelous timing window of Stepmania is the late perfect window in FFR, which is actually worse than the middle one because if you hit even slightly late, instead of still getting an FFR perfect, and what would be an SM Perfect, you get an FFR good.

It takes a few moments to adjust your timing when moving from one to the other but stepmania definitely has a positive effect on your reading ability and speed. I really wish there was a way to adjust the timing on FFR like you can in the newer 2DX games. I'm not talking about adjusting gap like in Stepmania, I mean like actually changing the actual spot on the screen where you have to aim, FFR's timing is so early that it often takes me a while to adjust especially if I've been playing SM for extended periods of time.
                              So long, T0 ~~
