Do you play to the rhythm or do you just hit notes as you see them?

Why would you put that in your signature? You've lost your signature rights for a month. (You'll get them back on March 10th, 2012.) -

Yeah, I kind of do both...
Except when I have to play a Silver_Brian, or a Vote4Nixon file, because then I have to ****ing button mash due to the steps being generally senseless.Comment

what you do while playing FFR is start to sense rhythms when the arrows come. you start doing both at the same time. you see a red-yellow-yellow-red pattern and instantly know it's a 16th gallop rhythm. it's like reading music. you see the patterns and shapes of notes and know the rhythm you're about to play.Comment

fixedyou see a red-yellow-yellow-red pattern and instantly know it's your least favourite pattern in the game, lose your combo and never play that song again.Comment

Re: Do you play to the rhythm or do you just hit notes as you see them?
I think I use a combination of using sound and sight. I don't normally turn off the sound and play by sight alone unless the song seems so off-sync to me that listening to the music would make me follow the audio beat and hit arrows at the wrong time. Even then, I tend to play the music briefly in the beginning to get the beat, then mute it. It's hard for me to ignore the audio beat, so I do make use of it. In most normal play, I'm also using sight and arrow colors to recognize the rhythms. For songs that have a fast (for me) tempo and less even/regular rhythm, the audio helps a lot more. In those cases, I'll try to hit arrows based more on what I hear than what I see, using my memory of the song to remember how the notes sounded and when to tap the keys, with my sight mainly just telling me in what order to press the keys.
So basically, I use both. Sight is more important for off-sync songs or slower tempo songs, and sound is more important for irregular patterns especially in faster tempo songs.
Essentially retired now, but still ranked on the list of FFR's Top One Handers.

Play a song a few times in a row on IE. Get used to it. Get comfortable. Now go back to Firefox and do it. You can still play with the beat, but you'll notice you'll be more on the middle of the beat instead of the front of it, or wherever the simfile author placed the arrows.

Re: Do you play to the rhythm or do you just hit notes as you see them?
I laughed
I usually play with the music on. If it's not too offsync, I'll adjust my timing to be slightly late. It's just a waste when a song is offsynced into oblivion. Like Sakura no Kenshi. Such a nice song but completely unplayable with the music on. I've played it once with the sound off and just played the music in my head and I found it to be much more enjoyable. I even got a blackflag on it (although that also kinda sucks
)
Why isn't there a FFR-sync-team that determines the syncing of (new) songs? A feature that allows you to adjust the offset would also be a great addition to FFR (probably hard to implement).Comment

Roses and Butterflies [Heavy], Eternal Nightmare [Heavy], The Games we Play Part 3, Final Fantasy Final Battle Festival. Are those high level enough? My performance is the same in the 3 places mentionned in my other post, despite the different keyborads (even that two computers are Windows and one is a Mac).
The only difference I've noticed is that with a Mac, you can't hold a button to suicide if you want to end the song.Comment
