Re: FFR Playing Style and Hand Position Guide

The only things that are DEFINITIVELY easier index than spread are:

    one handed trills
    runningmen
a few minijack patterns involving one hand

you cannot possibly say rolls are easier index than spread, because spread gives you the finger positioning to roll very fast and efficiently while indexing them would require twice the speed. of course someone who plays index, not spread, would have an easier time with rolls/staircases, but it's ONLY because they aren't good at spread.

i challenge you to MA a 200 bpm 32nd roll or staircase index. its impossible. with spread, however, its not only doable, but hardly a challenge.

          whoa whoa whoa

Rolls are EASIEST with spread. 1-handed has an advantage on jumpjacks and index has an advantage on trills and jacks (and debatably jumpjacks), but that's IT.

I agree about rolls on spread. Just logically it makes sense. Also if rolls are easier, staircases should be easier, considering they're alternating rolls in opposite directions.

            1-handed has advantages? Wow, I didn't know that. :P

Yeah, I play AIM Anthem 1-handed lol. It's easier to coordinate two fingers on the same hand than two fingers on different hands.

Probably because 1-handed jumps (especially jacks) are 90% wrist movement, and since the fingers are on the same wrist, they generally hit at the same time. Following this theory, jumps should be easier to PA one-handed, but they're not usually. I guess because jumps are harder to execute (especially series of different jumps), but when executed, it's much easier to PA them and not hit one arrow slightly after the other. The exception would be some people who do the 28/82 jumps with only their middle finger. Since many one-handers (usually beginners) hit the 2 and 8 arrows with their middle finger in all cases, they're used to hitting one after the other, so it becomes harder to hit them at exactly the same time until you adapt. Even then, after a while, most people get used to it.

EDIT: Zageron, when's your estimated finishing time?

I'm caught in a tight little spot. Ether on the last day of December, or early February. I have Zero time in January to do anything but study I'll get back to working on this.

End of December would be really nice, people will have forgotten about this by February and will likely be buried deep in here. Although, this is something that would be worth gravedigging for.

I agree. We need someone who plays index to give input, seeing as we don't have much consistent information on index. Can't write on something you don't know much about. Come on, indexers, speak up!

You play with your index fingers. You try to alternate but most of the time it's not possible. It's similar to playing DDR.
