Re: 2nd Annual FFRmas Discussion Thread

Well Teh Tricky Techno was quite fun. I didn't really agree with the trill-jump part compared to the previous pattern, but it didn't feel too bad. It was good because you varied the patterns but maintained a good level of consistency considering the repetitive nature of the song.

I'd like to see some more files from you that aren't for such repetitive songs.

    On the other hand...
If you are going to have a song that pushes the limits of FFR in terms of speed, the song should have to be really good. Another thing. If you're stepping the song with 8th jacks in it, why not be consistent. Aside from one part with the really long jack, the only other 8th jacks are in the dumb stream. Why do you have the part that is the hardest anyway due to speed, the only place where the 8th jacks are? I would have preferred some 8th minijacks in the non-stream parts of the song. There are certainly places where they would have been applicable with the melody or percussion sounds. And don't argue that you wanted to limit them because of the BPM. It's clear that you're stream basically uses the most 8th jacks possible without being completely retarded/one long trill.

Either way, poor song choice, patterns, consistency etc. Sorry, definitely not one of your best though.

    EDIT:
Now I believe it when you say you spend 10 minutes on a file :\

I just don't like jacks because they make the most boring pattern possible.
      I fail to AAA.

stargroup: for future "planned releases", how would you suggest doing releases? if i specifically pick the files (of the 3 major planned releases to date, there have been 62, 70, and 24-48 songs respectively), other people will bitch. i need to focus on pleasing everyone as much as possible... to do that, my main goal is to get as many stepfile authors into an event as possible as well as having as many artists featured. i feel i did that exceptionally well with this event... much better than the previous 2. and while i selected the specific songs randomly, i still made sure that no day featured the same artist or author more than once and that no artist/author was featured more than 3 times total in the entire event.

sure, i could have made this the SD/EW mass file release event... but that would wind up annoying most people. i think this gives people a huge variety of stepping types, music types, and difficulty. which is my main goal.

i'm exceptionally happy with the variety that this event has, and i think most people will be happy with that and appreciate it. even you have a song in this event.
          RIP

okay nvm then I missed this somehow

sort of on-topic: when a bad file gets released, it's sort of a 50-50 blame thing - half the stepper's fault, half the judges fault for letting it pass

Took me forever to BF Forsaken Neon, lol. There is always that one spot that gets me, but it's probably where the replacement took place.

              Teh Tricky Techno is an awesome song, but the file can get annoying. Even though it is decent, I can't improve 1-0-0-4 on it. >.>;

Thanks for the comments, glad you liked the file. I have two more in queue, hopefully they'll get in during this event.

TTT was synced correctly when I submitted it, it may have just gotten off a bit when put in-game.

And Tass, why'd the first few seconds get cut off? The mp3 had blank time at the front...

Nice, 2 minutes total for both songs.

I seem to like them both equally; they're both good files with a couple of annoying patterns in them. Sort of a personal thing; both stepped pretty well. Nice job Rebirth (obviously you have better files but nice job), nice job Xandertrax.

Tricky Techno is a lot of fun. AAAed it in the first try (+1 for non-spreaders!). Nothing tricky about this song imao.

Also AAAed Forsaken Neon. Because the song is rather short (1:20), I find this simfile fun too; anything longer than two minutes and that song would not be fun. It also helps that the hard stuff is at the first half of the song.

Rage's song was awesome but the file is gay.

Rebirth's file is good but the bs framers will never register as long as I play on my ****box.

xander: nothing else from you in this event. and, it was cut off because the arrows start going within the 1st 2 seconds. 11 notes were cut off. which is a lot.

No. If you want technical files, where notes are perfectly pitch relevant. And if you want layered simfiles, then I suggest you go play stepmania. FFR is not stepmania, and it never will be. If you don't like the way these FFR files are coming out, then I think you know where to go.

I am not here to necessarily bitch about Forsaken Neon. It may be a good file, and it may be a bad file. What it really is, is not up for me to decide. But I will say it is not a bad simfile because it is not pitch relevant, or whatever you want to do with simfiles. The only reason we have judges is to make sure absolute dump files do not get into the game. We do not care for pitch relevancy, layering, or whatever you guys want to say to make this game more like stepmania. Nor will we ever, most likely.

I find it funny how the only people that don't have a problem with the file, are the people that have been here for years. It is only the people that have joined after 2005 that seem to be with the intention of making this game be less unique than what it is. So if you're one of these people... then I suggest you give up on trying to change this game, or leave.
