When I played spread for a short amount of time, I played using A, S, K, and L. Shash uses left, down, numpad8, and numpad6 though. Do whatever is the most comfortable for your arms and wrists.

I'm practicing to switch this way. It's coming along nicely now except for jump stream and left handed trills. It's alot easier to Full Combo things this way. Feels better.
