how do you play spread?

I was wondering what other people use for playing spread, im just experimenting and currently using askl, and index, but need other people's opinion

Most people play spread as askl, but I've heard of left, down, numpad eight and numpad six, and I've also heard of as56, (the numpad versions, of course). I don't think I've heard of any others, or found any others that work very well.
