Just a question about faster songs.

Is there some kind of secret to reading the faster steps on songs like force of light? do you see them in patterns or do you see each individual step?

I'm stuck in a rut in my FFR ability, and the songs here don't help much either. They're either easy, or way too difficult to pass without mashing.
Any hints/secrets/practice tips etc would be greatly appreciated.

Play stepmania they'll be some song that are in between having it too easy and it being impossible to pass without mashing.

Do that, do that, and tried that. screen shrinking actually makes it harder for me.
Though, my main question never was answered. Do you see the faster arrows as patterns, or as individual arrows?

Also, as I already stated, either the songs are easy or just impossible. There's no inbetween practice material.

It is certainly possible to see it as patterns, but with practice your reaction rate goes up. So in essence you are reacting to individual arrows.

Beethoven Virus used to be a pretty cool practice song, too bad it's gone. Also, Go Go Power Rangers and Stalled Out and Sushi Bars are good. Try those.

Stalled and Sushi looks pretty good for practice. I can hit atleast half the faster arrows on it. Compaired to 1/10th of them on other songs.

I think I'll keep at this song til I can FC it regularly.

Also, if it's not too much trouble, could you suggest some future songs I should work at as well?

haha, Biff, I like the song, yet I can only do the slow parts.
When I said "Impossible" I mean, that it was impossible for me to pass with a decent score, and without mashing.

To answer your question, I see them in patterns. A good song to practice seeing patterns is Night of Flight because it doesn't overwhelm you with a non-stop barrage of patterns...just a few quick simple ones

Also, play Euthanasia. It's a nice slow easy stream song.

Lastly, you have to screenshrink. It makes recognizing the patterns so much easier. Without screen shrinking you might see 50 arrows on the screen at once. With screen shrinking you'll only see 25. Which do you think is easier for your brain to process?

Point well taken Pinoy. I'll try those songs as soon as I find them, and if I begin to get overwhelmed with arrows, I'll try screen shrinking again.

Found'em and thanks! They seem to be exactly what I was looking for.

Something that's not "OMGWTF?!" difficulty. Yet, still challenging to the point that I am far from being able to FC them.

Screen shrink so you can just barely see the bottom of the word 'Perfect' when you play. You will start getting many less goods/averages, and the patterns will become easier to read with practice. You can screen shrink even higher as you find you can read it well.

Play spread. Either use the arrow keys + numpad arrow keys or download www.autohotkey.com and make a script somewhat like this:

a::Send {left}
s::Send {down}
k::Send {up}
l::Send {right}

I find spread much easier than four-fingered on the arrow keys. Your hands aren't as cluttered and you can do a lot more that way.

For songs to practice, try any slower to moderately fast stream songs, like Euthanasia, Wish (For FFR), CIA Rave, etc.
