i play 2 handed three fingers but i'm beginning to play spread. Spread is by far the best IF and only if u can do it fast enough, no crossovers, no jumps, no nothing. Easiest.

Spread is when you spread out your left and right hand on the keyboard. For example, when I play spread (on my other keyboard, because the arrow keys don't register properly) I use:
Q-left middle
W-left index
8 (numpad)-right index
9 (numpad)-right middle

I use two, but it really depends on the person. Not all hand skills are alike.

my left index usually stays on the left for the whole time, unless if I need to use it in a really fast song, like flight of the bumblebee, or the down button.
then my right index just does up and right. probably not the best strategy, but works for me!

I just tried using one hand with this setup:
r-index= left
r-middle=up or down
r-ring=right

I use 2 hands because it is easier...2 hands 4 fingers...left index on top left middle on bottom left, right index bottom right middle bottom left.

Left Index: down
Left Middle: left
Right Index: up
Right Middle: right

I use something very similar to that but slightly different

Left Index: down
Left Middle: left
Right Middle: up
Right Ring: right

Pretty much started from spread. Well, very 1st few songs I tried playing 1 hand but figured I'd do better with 2 hands. Never looked back.

well i've been seeing a lot of these post about 2 hands and spread setup, and i play with a spread layout on stepmania, but i've been wondering how to setup a different key setup on ffr? is it even possible to change the keys you use for FFR here or do you have to just use the arrow keys?

I was actually planning to come on here and make a post about this, but I was beat to it.

Currently, I best overall with one hand. I can fc most of the easier songs, and can get high combos on faster songs such as CIA Rave. However, the better I got at reading the arrows, the faster I tried to go. Eventually I found myself having great difficulty on any part the required alternating between up and down quickly. I can still combo and pass these parts most of the time, but I tend to just double tap the up and down keys which makes it hard to come out of that particular pattern without losing the combo.

So one day I decided to try CIA Rave using my indexes. Bam...comboed the first 110ish or so on my first try. I still can't fc it with indexes, because I don't play that way much because some patterns are really awkward and I tend to have trouble picking up if I lose where I am. But it's nice when you play songs like Gradeus where my fingers can't keep up at all yet and I can combo a very large portion of the beginning of the song with my indexes (and then my fingers get tied up and I always lose it).

So now I'm testing out two hand/two finger spread. It's fun and I find certain patterns a lot easier, but I'm not picking up on it as quickly as I did two fingered.

so...overall, I play most of my games one hand or two hand/two finger spread...and when I get bored and am about to go do something else I try Gradeus with indexes :P

I play two-handed spread with B, N, 8, and 6 for left, down, up, and right, respectively.

Obviously, every player will be stronger with a different keyset, but I think with using two hands and not having your hands so bunched up, everything's just a lot neater.
