Before FFR I was too dumb to know how to wipe my own ass but along the way to D6 I've become smart enough to realize that wiping is nothing more than a colossal waste of time.

I've learned pissing in the bathtub is far more effective than the toilet. I mean..it drains out on it's own so no more flushing required.

Mostly what everyone else has said in here sums it up for my reasoning - It doesn't make you any smarter in the sense. It improves your ability to react to things directly in front of you, and gives you a better sense of rhythm & beat in music.

Actually, before I never used to bob my head around to a sick beat, but after playing FFR for over 5 years, every time I hear bass kicking, I start bobing my head to it. Does this count?

Oh yay. But really I thought I was going to get smarter by practicing this, it's just like that website Lumosity, you know? Some of the games there are basically a crappy version of FFR, like matching shapes with no music or something but they said it makes you smart so... They lied?

FFR introduced me to types of music that I'd never listened to before whose names I'd never heard of and ended up broadening my musical taste.
It directly and indirectly taught me concepts and terms in music theory, from more basic things learned through just playing to more advanced things learned mostly through stepping.
It improved my hearing as far as being able to recognize different elements and effects in music that I didn't actively notice before thanks to the accompanying stepcharts, and through discussion it taught me the names of ones I already did hear but didn't know what they were called.
I guess that counts as getting smarter, but

FFR can help with cognitive skills such as reaction time, processing speed, hand-eye coordination, mental stamina, etc etc. Does that equal getting smarter tho? Up to you, but as always, too much of something turns into a bad thing. You won't get smarter by reading the same line from a textbook over and over for hours, nor will you get smarter by playing VS Boss Battle 1,000 times.

I don't think playing FFR would make someone smarter. You could make the argument that browsing/posting in the forums might have an effect, but that would depend on someone's definition of "smarter" and which boards are being frequented.

There was actually a study done comparing the effectiveness of Lumosity to Portal 2.
