How to find your judge offset

Step 1. Find a stream song that you have an FC between 5 and 30 goods as your best score on.
Step 2. Play the song and record the replay.
Step 3. Start the replay and press to quit key.
Step 4. Increase the offset by 1 and then watch the replay. Make a note of how many goods + averages + misses you got.
Step 5. Decrease the offset by 1 (from its original value) and then watch the replay again. Make note of your goods + averages + misses.

If you got fewer goods + averages + misses with the higher offset, increase your offset slightly.
If you got fewer goods + averages + misses with the lower offset, decrease your offset slightly.

Step 6. If you got about as many goods + averages + misses in both cases, stop, otherwise, go back to step 2.

I just did this and came up with a new offset for myself of 0.55. I think it'll make things at least a little bit easier.

Re: How to find your judge offset

If you use visual clues (relative placement ?) to play FFR, that won't work.

If you're playing by ear, then yes, it might help.

Using the built-in feature is better.

Uhh, this isn't fishing for a sticky, it's trying to help people. Anyway, I'll try that changelog thingy.

Edit: And I should've mentioned that I also change the global offset to match the judge offset so that it still does line up with the music even though it doesn't line up exactly with the judgment arrows.

Decimal offsets don't work in replays.

Re: How to find your judge offset

but if you change it by an entire 1, then the difference is noticeable in replays. It doesn't do what would seem optimal but it still works for determining if you're early or late.

Replays don't save when you hit the key, only the recorded judgement. So yeah if you change it by one, it'll shift it all up or down, but there's no real point to doing that. Like was mentioned, just use the built-in feature.

Re: How to find your judge offset

If you want to do this, turn off all pa/combo/etc indicator settings when you're recording the replay. Seeing amazing/perfect/good popups as you play will force you to shift toward the current perfect frames even if it's not where you'd normally be comfortable hitting them.

But yeah the average offset sekrit feature is basically this except you don't need replays and it's a bit more accurate. It also serves the purpose of telling you whether you're early or late considering whether the result is negative or positive.

Re: How to find your judge offset

You should not use a song you're getting 5 to 30 goods on, because that indicates that there is a level of inaccuracy. You would most definitely want a song where you can AAA.

If you are a skilled player, your best bet is to play a song with streams that are very comfortable within your skill level in a way that emphasizes very even tapping, and you will have to rely 100% on the song, audibly. Not all players play rhythm games in this manner. Creating a guide for precise offsets will only cater to those who play to those who read charts through colored notation and spacing based off of the audible tempo.

With that being said, the R^3 built-in feature accommodates for your sync -- you would be better off playing a song that is streamy and very evenly paced multiple times, and recording the suggested offsets that the engine gives you.

                        EDIT: completely forgot about this:

Turning off perfect indicator destroys my PA, my eyes don't know where to focus on the screen without it. I also use different offsets depending on how fast the song is, since I'll have more late hits on something harder. Probably bad practice overall honestly though.

Yeah, I don't care what my offset is on easy songs much, I just want to know what it is on harder songs for me. But sadly, that built-in feature is better than what I came up with so my idea is sort of pointless. I've tried using the built-in offset thing and it says I should be at 0.82. Wow I'm a long way from 0.

Well, then, uh, use a custom judge window that makes everything one judgement and focus on that even though the text is meaningless.

                              P.S. that's terrible

Consider that 1 isn't a long way from 0 and apparently is common for people switching from older engines. It doesn't make you bad or inaccurate. (the +/- part does though)
