The Performance is Killing it for Me

I've been playing FFR for quite a long time, and have been looking to get back to playing some more, but this game is just too full of stuttering to make it playable. It's smooth as butter sometimes, then it'll drop to what seems like 5fps at others. It makes FCing a 20 difficulty song a challenge, and makes improving my skill nigh impossible.

This isn't a new problem for me, I've had problems with lag as long as I can remember... but even on my newest rig (6 core amd fx 6300 @ 3.5ghz / radeon 7870) the game lags.

I've tried literally all of the standalones, and various engines. The standalones do have less problems than in-browser, but not enough to make FFR an enjoyable experience.

I've tried this game most recently on both Win 7 and 8. Win 8 removed the ability to turn off some features (namely, aero), and on Win 7 I didn't notice any improvement with the classic theme. Also tried enabling/disabling flash HW acceleration.

I have more stable FPS playing Bioshock Infinite than FFR!

i don't see how you could have done all of that and still be lagging unless you are trying to run 30 programs at the same time

EDIT: check and make sure your cpu isn't being maxed out. just run standalone and look at what task manager says

FFR is the most unique game I've seen, where it runs better on shittier computers than it does on good ones.

Go to my Multiplayer guide in the Multiplayer Plaza, it covers 95% of the methods you can use to improve your performance and applies to more than Multiplayer. Good luck!

I've heard from a few people that setting their processor affinity for Flash Player to 1 core helps for FFR (for some stupid reason). If you're not aware of how to do this, open Flash Player, hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and go to whatever the process of the Flash Player is (sa_flashplayer_9.exe, flashplayer_11.exe, etc), right click, and click on Set Affinity. From there, set it so that only one of your cores is used with Flash Player.

It's an absolutely non-sensical thing to do, but it has worked for some people...

Couple things that might make a difference:

              - If you're running chrome, check chrome://plugins to see if you have more than one copy of flash. There is an NPAPI and PPAPI (out-of-process) version by default) and sometimes they conflict. You can see by clicking the [+] Details at the top right. Disable PPAPI and try again.

              - Right-click on the game and check your flash settings, Hardware Acceleration and Local Storage limits might do it. (I generally run Off + Unlimited) (Noticed you mentioned that...)

                An age old mystery.
Do you bury me when I am gone? Do you teach me while I am here? Just as soon as I belong, then it's time I disappear.

My computer still lags when the song gets dense, and I've tried all the usual suggestions.

takes crap to run crap. you can't set something that's not meant to be on something unless it can handle it.

ffr just can't handle it. *shrugs* at least until it gets a really decent upgrade to today's tech.

sorreh fiffer you're just old and fairly obsolete fufufu~
