It isn't. It simply takes the number of recorded plays of a song, multiplies by the song length (which as noname points out may be inaccurate) and then adds the totals across all songs together.

I have 54:23:56:11, but I did notice that it adds the whole song length for each gameplay. You could rack up a day's play in a few minutes by just restarting TGWPv2 85 times.
