How do you guys read jumpstreams? Take the files makiba, or etude on a nimbus for example.. Do you somewhat focus more on when/where the jumps are, or do you just read the file "normally"? When it comes to jumpstreams, I myself tend to single out the jumps, and my brain just kinda processes the other notes.

Re: Question about reading jumpstream
I read the jumps as part of the stream. I might emphasize the jumps a bit, but I don't try to over-exaggerate them.Comment

Re: Question about reading jumpstream
The jumps are more conspicuous to me, but I have a tendency to split them anyways. This is one of the major flaws I have.
Jumpstream with anchors and minijacks cause the biggest problems (especially with 2 framers) because of how much I rely on visual playing. The minijack stands out a lot more to me and that goes over the jump, and I tend to play by emphasizing certain sides (left side and right side).Originally posted by hi19hi19oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a fileComment

Re: Question about reading jumpstream
Play SM, and try putting the skin on "note." Play a crap ton of JS, but while playing them really pay attention to the patterns and jumps. The only way to get good at something is to keep practicing it.Originally posted by One Winged Angelur my favorite :')

Re: Question about reading jumpstream
At first you focus more on jumps, after enough practice it becomes a second-nature. The same thing can happen with handstream. It's just adaptation until you can do it without paying too much attention to them. The more you get used to it, the easier it should be.

Re: Question about reading jumpstream
the most obvious answer to improve reading jumpstream is to practice jumpstream.. i was just curious to see if anyone else has a certain way of reading it differently from other patterns. I dont really read other patterns different, but when they are jumpsteams, like i had mentioned above, i tend to let the jumps stand out more then anything.
edit: this post kinda sounds like i was bitching/complaining about the replies.. dont take it that way lolLast edited by m0de; 09-23-2012, 09:11 PM.

Re: Question about reading jumpstream
Try to do the opposite. Read the stream and ignore the jumps mentally. It's going to help you keep consistency on long term and the same can be said with any patterns. Example: You play black key etude, it's just stream with random mini-jacks. If you focus too much on mini-jacks you will probably get random goods on the stream because your attention will be distracted for like 0.1 second. It's better to keep concentration to everything in general than one specific pattern. Practice is only useful to be able to do any kind of pattern while staying consistent.

Re: Question about reading jumpstream
I try to look for 1212 and 3434 parts to help with more dense jumpstream. Once I notice one of those parts then I look at the other side and focus on those notes.Comment

Re: Question about reading jumpstream
The way I learned JS will probably seem weird, but it works. (At least you won't have issues with BNS because ALL files will be like that.)
First, get into the mind of the sim author. What are they putting the jumps to? This clearly doesn't work with dump files, but 99% of the time it should get you by. Once you figure out what's getting the added steps, emphasize the jumps a little more to make sure that your taps stay consistent.
I've always had a bit of an issue with loud keytaps, so I work on listening to my taps during middle-speed streams for consistency and regularity, again taking care to emphasize the jumps. This is pretty much what happened during my AAA run of Makiba, though fluking the minijacks was certainly a factor as well.
This tends to fall apart in situations where there's more than one jump per measure, however--stuff like Chaosmaid comes to mind.Originally posted by thesunfanI literally spent 10 minutes in the library looking for the TWG forum on Smogon and couldn't find it what the fuck is this witchcraft IGR
