    Re: STEPOCALYPSE (Official Thread)

Okay, NOW qualifiers are over. For real this time! The Competitive tier is as follows:
    1. Staiain (666.40)
    2. Zyphoror (639.45)
    3. EzExZeRo7497 (638.39)
    4. Dynam0 (624.55)
    5. EtienneSM (615.06)
    6. Sakish (608.40)
    7. shadow 1800 (595.61)
    8. Fantasticone (594.43)
    9. TC_Halogen (592.24)
    10. xXOpkillerXx (587.34)
    11. scottiena (581.19)
    12. choof (569.82)

Everyone else who submitted scores is in the Open tier. Everyone in both tiers who submits scores for both sets will receive credits at the end of the tournament.

The competition is officially from October 1st to October 7th, server time. Each player in the Competitive tier will send me at least two days (i.e, October Xth from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM server time) they would like to play their sets on. If you want to play both sets on the same day, please let me know. The schedule will then be drawn up starting with the top player's preferences and going down. No more than five people can play per day unless there are serious circumstances that would make it impossible for someone to play otherwise. Scheduling isn't any more specific than the days, so the players may want to sort things out if two of them want to stream on the same day. Open tier players are welcome to play the sets at their convenience, although if you stream I recommend not bumping heads with any of the Competitive players.

Scores on each set must be sent to me via PM within 24 hours of being played. I recommend sending either an Imgur album with a screenshot of the Stats spreadsheet at the end or a .zip file containing all of the screenshots and the spreadsheet, but as long as you send all of the screenshots you intend to along with some proof of when you played, you're good.

Left side is the scores, right side is their position for each song

For a more detailed breakdown of the scores gotten (i.e. which rate and what score in MIGS%): Link

Maybe I shouldn't have played Disregard on 1.2, lmao.

Drama week has begun! There won't be a set schedule since a majority of the Competitive tier didn't respond.

                        Re: STEPOCALYPSE (Official Thread)

I've been seeing a lot of confusion about the sets, whether it's because people are having trouble understanding the rules or because they haven't read any of them. So, I'll try to explain how to optimize scores on the first set, the Tiers. While you could optimize the second set in a similar way, you can get pretty close to your optimal score using a fairly simple rule: play everything on either the highest rate you can AA, or 1.0 if you can't.

First off, here's a reminder of the first set's structure:
This set consists of 9 tiers, each with 3 files in them. The three files represent three categories: speed, stamina, and "other". There's also a "Tier 0" exclusively for the Open tier. Rates are not allowed on this set, but they are in the other. Each set must be played in one 75 (at most) minute long session (redoes are allowed, but you must redo the entire session). Immediate fail scores are allowed, so AJ's evaluation screen edit will likely net you some extra points on both sets.

Your score for the set is calculated as follows: first, calculate the % MIGS score for each score. MIGS is a slight mod to the standard DP system in which marvs are worth +3 rather than +2. For each tier, add the highest score you got on any of the three files to your total. Finally, if you get above 92.5% MIGS on every file in a tier, add a bonus which depends on the difficulty of the tier (the list, from lowest tier to highest, is [15-]30-60-90-120-180-240-300-450-600).
What does this mean? Well, let's say you play through Tier 4. In MIGS, you get 97.84% on Frenzy, 98.05% on Unorthodox Red, and 95.64% on The a la Menthe. Your highest score in the tier was on Unorthodox Red, and you got well above 92.5% on every song. Therefore, you earn 98.05 points plus the 120 point bonus, for a total of 218.05 for the tier.
Now, these are approximately the scores choof had with 10 minutes left on the clock during a test run. Underscores indicate that he didn't play the file (or played it but quit before getting a results screen):
                        Code:
                        	SPD	STM	XXX
                        T1	99.24	99.21	99.34
                        T2	98.82	99.14	98.42
                        T3	98.60	_	98.09
                        T4	97.84	98.05	95.64
                        T5	92.26	92.84	95.23
                        T6	86.26	_	94.14
                        T7	_	_	84.95
                        T8	55.00	_	_
                        T9	_	_	80.66
At this point, his score was as follows:
                        Code:
SPD	STM	XXX	Max	Bonus	Total
                        T1	99.24	99.21	99.34	99.34	30	129.34
                        T2	98.82	99.14	98.42	99.14	60	159.14
                        T3	98.60	_	98.09	98.60	0	98.60
                        T4	97.84	98.05	95.64	98.05	120	218.05
                        T5	92.26	92.84	95.23	95.23	0	95.23
                        T6	86.26	_	94.14	94.14	0	94.14
                        T7	low	_	84.95	84.95	0	84.95
                        T8	55.00	_	low	55.00	0	55.00
                        T9	_	_	80.66	80.66	0	80.66
                        Total 805.11	210	1015.11
What songs could he play in the last 10 minutes to rack up as many points as possible? First off, he didn't play the stamina file in tier 3 yet (Gate Openerz). If he played that and got above 92.5% MIGS (and it's very likely he would, given his other scores), he would get the 90 point bonus, and maybe a tiny bit extra if he beat his score on 300 (the speed song). Also, note tier 5: he got above 92.5% MIGS on two of the three songs, but just BARELY below it on the speed song (The Limit Does Not Exist). If he managed to improve his score enough, he could get the 180 point bonus for that tier. Thus, he could get 270 points from playing just 2 songs, boosting his score by over 25%! Unfortunately, the only score he got in the last 10 minutes which actually increased his total was a 96.06% on tier 5's "other" file (YOU JUST GOT ARABIA'D), getting him less than half a point.

For comparison, here are my stats during my test run a couple days ago (minus the Tier 0 songs and without some specifics on some higher-tier files i played):
                        Code:
                        	SPD	STM	XXX
                        T1	98.77	99.63	98.58
                        T2	97.42	98.50	96.22
                        T3	95.92	98.63	95.78
                        T4	96.08	92.62	92.79
                        T5	_	low	85.53
                        T6	low	_	88.21
                        T7	43.60	low	20.48
                        T8	49.92	13.00	7.00
                        T9	_	_	26.66
Not gonna lie, I'm obviously a much worse player than choof, failing two songs that he passed and getting nowhere near the T5 bonus. However, you wouldn't know that from my total:
                        Code:
SPD	STM	XXX	Max	Bonus	Total
                        T1	98.77	99.63	98.58	99.63	30	129.63
                        T2	97.42	98.50	96.22	98.50	60	158.50
                        T3	95.92	98.63	95.78	98.63	90	188.63
                        T4	96.08	92.62	92.79	96.08	120	216.08
                        T5	_	low	85.53	85.53	0	85.53
                        T6	low	_	88.21	88.21	0	88.21
                        T7	43.60	low	20.48	43.60	0	43.60
                        T8	49.92	13.00	7.00	49.92	0	49.92
                        T9	_	_	26.66	26.66	0	26.66
                        Total 686.76	300	986.76
The 90 extra bonus points from "clearing" tier 3 made up for a lot of the difference in maximum scores.

So, what does this mean? Grab as many bonus points as possible. If you can get 92.5% or more on every song in a tier, play the whole thing (although you probably shouldn't worry about lower bonuses until you've gotten one score in all of the tiers). Don't try to improve any of your scores until you've gotten all of the bonus points you can: even the lowest bonus, 30 points (15 for Open) is much larger than any possible improvement on a passing score. The most important files for any player should be the ones they get very close to 92.5% MIGS on, which is about a mid-tier AA for files without bursts. I made the mistake of burning up a lot of my stamina on Gate Openerz (tier 3 stamina) and Last Star in the Universe (tier 1 "other") before attempting Unorthodox Red during my test run, and I nearly lost the bonus because of it.
Beyond that, don't play all of the files. For one, you actually don't have time to pass all of them: there are 75 minutes, and the songs are a combined 79 minutes long WITHOUT tier 0. No one is getting the absolute maximum number of points (in case you're wondering, it's 2970 for Competitive, and I suspect no more than 4 people can even get half that). Secondly, most scores below 92.5% MIGS don't matter. If you have no chance of getting the bonus in a tier, the only score that adds to your total is your highest one. I recommend figuring out which file will get you the highest score in each tier you can't get the bonus in, and ONLY play that one during your set.

This spreadsheet can calculate MIGS scores for any file in both sets, including fails (and rates for the second set), so definitely use it to plan out your sets- either download it or save a copy to a Google account. For those worried about tracking stats on the day of, SM5 can display MIGS scores on the results screen, and ca25nada's Ultralight theme edit for SM5 can show your average MIGS % score while you play. Feel free to ask me about the details. You can also display your MIGS % score on your results screen in 3.95 as well: look at this (lmfao KBO) and scroll down to "Dance Points on evaluation screen".

I really hope this clears things up.

I actually read the whole post! I feel alright about doing a set for tiers now at least.

Optimizing the second set is going to be similar to qualifiers i'm assuming?
