Actually, I performed about as well as I'd hoped in D1. (Lucky for me, all the BS players were above the line I expected to reach.)
Looking at the previous tournament, I thought I'd be strong enough to barely earn top 16 and almost definitely not make top 8. Well, I passed the Round-of-16 cutoff and earned some new AAAs, so I'm happy. I can't complain about the BS players 'cause nobody saw that coming.
What would I do with vRofl anyway?
I'm not playing. This is absolutely ridiculous. D1's final song in last year's tournament was a 9.
We have people AAAing 10s and it's not the final. I'm not being sarcastic at all.
Yhe, it's pretty ridiculous.
I mean, I know it can be said I should not have been in d1. I had not played ffr apart from the odd games for a loooong time and saw this tourney as a chance to sharpen up my skills, and start playing properly again - I never assumed I would get this far. Turns out some people must have been hiding their skills, surely you can't aaa this sort of song first try if you haven't played in a while?
Also, I don't want people to think this is me moaning as I was leading for a while, I don't even really care about the prizes too much, just was in for the fun comp. Of course I'm going to see if I can plug away for top 5, but I doubt it.

It's pretty obvious that D1 is just a heap of players who were hiding their skills. D1 didn't have an AAA on their final song last year, and it was a 9. We're not at the finals and D1 is still on an AAA rampage on a 10. It's like D1 is playing D2's tournament. O_o
What about a member-year cutoff and a minimum songs-played and activity metric so that:
1. There's enough data to make a proper skill assessment
2. Over a sufficient time period, it should also strengthen that data's accuracy
3. If that data is consistent with a time horizon that is close to the start of the tourney, it prevents people from sandbagging based on absence
