Every credit-based contest I do is purely through random selection. The post order determines the lot number and random.org is used to compile the appropriate number of lots at random. I need to get one of those huge bingo cages and make a spectacle out of these contests...
We reserve skill/thought-based contests for subscriptions, cash and merchandise. I made a slight exception with the sub I gave away for this contest, but even then, you had to have the luck of picking a president without knowing about the contest and then be randomly chosen among that pool of entries, so it was sort of a double-luck entry. Really, the whole presidential thing was to make this contest a little more interesting than the normal "I'm in" posts.
