finally, a tournament where IRL prizes weren't promised.
remember the last couple tourneys?? pictures, promises, excuses, silence. none of it eventuated.

Last tournament, syite sent out t-shirts, and funmonkey sent out a (literal and quite large) cookie.

The 7th official though... not really happy about that; I didn't get my SessileNomad CD, nor did I get my stickers, decals... etc.

EDIT: @ ymia: it's not composed of only D1/D2 players, but the number of files in the upper range largely outweigh those in the lower range; I actually made a post/argument about this a little while back.

Top 8 of each division has received their badges. I will be sending out a private message tomorrow in regards to the token prizes, so be on the look out and ready for choosing your token as shown on the OP.

FFR isn't composed of just D1 and D2 players, should we just remove the ridiculously easy files because it's impractical for other players to be playing files of that difficulty?

This goes to a different discussion of where it would be acceptable for files that high of a difficulty range to be accepted without going through a normal batch. There is also nothing wrong with D1 and D2 files -- I am quite concerned if people think like that because there are some very fun easy files that get overlooked because people focus too much on the file and not enough on the song.

Sunshine Rainy [Light] for instance is a LOT better than many hard files in this game. I don't care if it's an easier file.

There wasn't anything promised at all in the 8th, haha. Kayla disclosed prizes only when they were 100% finalized and was certain that people would give the prizes out, and they did. syite gave the t-shirts, funmonkey gave his literal cookie, everyone got their profile badges, D7 players got their unique token + forum title... I don't think there was anything else promised that official.

The 7th official had a shitton of stuff promised that never happened, though -- SessileNomad CDs, stickers, decals, plushies, song OPs, stepcharts, etc. Too many promises and absolutely nothing paid out. All I got was credits, and nothing else. I actually even bumped the 7th official thread multiple times inquiring about my physical prizes and was literally ignored.

Also to keep the difficulty ceiling where it is is being passé imo. Players are getting better so the high end limits have to start being challenged. There are literally only 2 files in game that cannot easily be SDG'd by top players. People used to battle to the death just to FC things but never complained about files being too hard (Crowdpleaser being a justifiable exception). The evolution of the Stepmania scene caters even less so to beginners.

Another thing you need to consider is that most avid players will eventually find 1-20s boring to play, so the need for a higher number of lower difficulty songs seems a little more unnecessary than you'd think. You forget that FFR was more popular when it had only 50 songs and way shittier game mechanics. I see little harm in upping the difficulty limits but meh

This...may be interesting? although much more effort. With a tourney batch, estimating at about 100 files, maybe on average everyone submits 2 songs. that's 2 reviews per group of 4 judges that need to be sent to 50 different people.

that's a lot of management, just for the sake of keeping the batch secret. In any case, round previews were nice, and no-one really knew 100% what was coming up in rounds

irl prizes are tough because there've been past years where people didn't recieve the prizes that they were told that they were gonna get (cough choofers cough cough cough), so unless one of the event staff (probably Kayla) has the prizes physically so she/AJ can make sure that they're properly distributed at the end of the tourney, it's probably just easier to not?

Ben's tourney was cumulative scoring.

Everything went out for the 8th, I refused to put up prizes on the OP unless I had them to give out. I didn't make promises that I couldn't personally fulfill. The 7th official is the one that had a bunch of stuff promised that never went out, I wanted my sticker damnit.

I agree upping difficulty limits is an exciting prospect!

Over the last two months avid players were getting 4-7 hard charts every week. Beginner players were getting nothing. It only makes sense that there are beginner charts created and released more often during that time span. Not as often as hard charts, but it definitely should exist. Beginners like fresh content catering to their level the same as the avid player. (for every official tourney post you could say "this week's novice chart is....etc") It's just you are more likely to see an avid player using the forum to talk about it.

I think it would be nice to have top 16 or top 32 profile badges as well, to drive a bit more competition from the upper/middle of the pack. Only the top 8 would get vrofl still though.
