With our current permission from areiacreations, I noticed he had an official kpop version. I asked him about the current permission and whether or not we have permission for his upcoming official kpop song and he said we do.
We have permission for this:

I had gotten permission from this guy some time ago for ThirdStyle and just contacted him tonight about FFR. He's all for it. His name is Dave and he does a variety of genres under Boyinaband and then he also has an actual band. He said we can use anything as long as it's credited properly and such.

Even if we were going to get permission from him, a lot of his works are just piano renditions of songs created by artists that we don't have permission for. Is this something that can safely be done without us being haunted down later for having content removed?

I remember ZUN explicitly denying permission for his songs, although he didn't seem to have any issue with reproduction of his songs. I suppose Touhou renditions that are directly based off of ZUN's versions (and not remixes of ZUN's songs by other artists) would be alright. It'd be pretty hard to tell, though.

I remember having this discussion with bmah and a couple others some time back on this issue as well, because I felt it was borderline strange that something like that would be ok. Apparently it is, though - I was told that it only matters if we have permission from the artist who has direct ownership of that particular mp3, which makes sense along the same lines of reasoning as remixes, I guess.

We have permission for covers and remixes so long as we have permission from the covering/remixing artist- permission from the artist of the source material is irrelevant.

Someone should ask marasy!
