Re: Official Tournament 13 Batch Notes

    E-lectixilent (Elekton) [8/10]
    Artist: Se-U-Ra -- Perms: OK

    - 2.615/2.693: jumps for kicks like 1.760/1.838? if those two jumps are because of combined layering with percussion, then only 2.693 needs to be a jump
    - 3.159: seems like this should be a jump as well
    - 5.646/etc: notes mentioned for first four measures apply since the next four are (mostly) a copy/paste/mirror
    - 19.869/24.843/29.584/29.817: missing note for electric piano (I do realize that some of these might be omissions as a result of the hard hitting bass that kinda floods the soundscape, but not all of them are)
    - 37.045: missing jump (it looks like there’s more, but this is the only jump that would be placed that lands on a bass kick while not having three consecutive jumps in a row here)
    - 39.688: remove jump
    - 53.055: missing note
    - 1:02.382: this section seems to focus on combined layering for jumps involving the kick and the melody; this should be a jump in this case
    - 1:10.309/etc: this section has the same notes as the previous one on account of being a substantial copy paste from the first instance
    - 1:47.460/1:48.781/1:49.947/etc: missing jump(s)? this is another section that seems to have combined layering between percussion and the melody, but only some of the instances seem to have proper combination
    - chart is a bit redundant in terms of patterning; there are a lot of repeating motifs but they’re not within a section, they’re moreso song-wide, which can get a little stale at times -- the whole alternating D/L stuff for the left-handed piano notes is cool to listen to and identify as a separation, but it could be moved around a bit for more pattern variation
    - solid structure overall, just needs a few more jumps added and it’s good to go

    Ex Nihilo (VisD) [7.5/10]
Artist: Fractal Dreamers -- Perms: OK (alias)

    - 15.882/19.193/etc: missing note(s) for amen break sample
    - 22.089: ghost note
    - 22.400: the break sample hasn’t changed at all, so the minijacks here feel out of place given that there’s no representation of them earlier on
    - 40.607: next few notes could have better PR here
    - 1:08.227: should be a jump with your layering
    - 1:20.951: missing note for percussion
    - 1:21.365: given the next few notes and how hard hitting they are, this jump likely should go away
    - 1:36.055: yikes, these are pretty hard compared to other stuff earlier; not a bad thing, just might be something to keep in mind for difficulty balance
    - 1:48.779: ghost note
    - 1:49.089: this is a pretty nasty pattern
    - 1:54.986/1:58.503: missing jump
    - 1:59.020: this is pretty rude and I believe the only instance of an actual 32nd trill in the entire song, spread it out - please
    - chart’s decent, structure is coherent and follows the song well

    Happy Arnold=) (hi19hi19) [8.5/10]
Artist: Reizoko Cj -- Perms: OK

    - 2.352: first three jumps are fine, but this one definitely just feels like an echo
    - 8.044: pretty hard hit, should be a jump most likely
    - 15.218: would be nice if this got moved to L to reduce that right-hand strain
    - 35.593: minor thing but noticeable on a waveform, move up a 96th
    - 37.333: having the burst change to split with no gap like this is pretty rough given that this is a short 506 BPM burst
    - 1:02.708/1:09.348/etc: some missing hi-hats here
    - file is quite polished
    - this chart is pretty conscious of pattern placement and strain overall; it takes some pretty intense structures but transitioning is fairly easy through all of them if you have the speed and control
    - great submission.

    Patron Tequila (mi40) [6/10]
    Artist: mi40 (!) -- Perms: OK (producer)

    - repeated taps in the intro do feel a bit off, up until right before the “so fucked up” lyric
    - 27.328: move to [R] to get the repeating vocal sample
    - 37.041: missing note for vocal sample
    - 39.623: moving this to [L] gives you a bit more relevance on the layering of vocals that alternates
    - 42.574: move this note off of [D] and place either on [L] or [R] to make room for the more noticeably repeating sample at 42.820
    - 47.861/48.844/57.697: doesn’t quite sound like there’s a vocal sample here?
    - 49.213: minijack on [U] should actually be separated and most likely have the note at 49.336 moved to [D]
    - 51.180 to end: the structure starts to deteriorate a bit, unfortunately:
------ 51.918/etc (incorrect) vs. 1:07.656 (better): this 8th note has the same characteristics as the first four jumps you have (in that there’s the synth + chopped vocals) yet seems to stand out as a single? it’s not that big of a problem because it’s consistently applied as a single, but I’m not certain why.
------ 52.410/52.779, 1:08.516 (incorrect) vs. 36.672/37.041 (better): why utilize minijacks for vocal samples that are different words, where one of which is a bit less clear? The earlier utilization was a much cleaner choice.
------ 56.098 (incorrect) vs. 32.492 (better): the [U]’s starting at 32.492 properly capture the repetition of the sample in the proper rhythm, whereas neither L/R at 56.098 utilize repetition to properly capture all the notes
    - structure in this isn’t too bad, but there are some issues with layering and representation of musical elements
    - song’s unfortunately a bit too short for OT purposes and I don’t feel like it does enough in the way of testing skill sets to be useful even at the short length

    Track title (klimtkiller) [7/10]
Artist: Reizoko Cj -- Perms: OK

    - fill out your metadata properly, your artist field is blank
    - 32.202 to 46.201: jump usage in this section is definitely too heavy; section would look a lot better visually if the jumps were only on beats 1 and 3 for a good majority of it -- if you have intent on following the little 8-bit melody in the background, you should definitely have more jumps on 8ths beforehand -- you can tell that your layering structure is counterintuitive when you have a brighter melody and your layering decreases as a result (41.090)
    - 42.868 to 46.201: even without my note about this section, your structure is inconsistent against itself by not having jumps every 4th in this last part
    - 53.424: barely audible, but really abrasive; jump should come off of this burst or it should be reduced
    - 1:19.422: move this off of [UR] since it’s a different percussive element
    - 1:21.533: this is a normal (for the song) kick, so this particular blip shouldn’t be a colored effect
    - 1:32.977/1:33.422: these are mean, holy shit -- on top of being inside of an unrelenting 270 BPM 16th jumpstream, please keep in mind that these bursts are 202.5 BPM 32nd minitrills at this speed
    - 1:59.088: should be 16th jumps, not 32nd burst
    - 1:59.977: picking here because the measure lines are impossible to scroll through; the first two notes of this are approximately 33ms apart, which means the closer part near the end of this is even faster than that - this trill needs to be reduced
    - 2:15.533: no
    - 2:16.866: this 32nd burst is brutal coming after those previous blips
    - 2:21.977: keep in mind how fast this is; having these two bursts right back to back is exceptionally difficult, given that the second one also doesn’t really have a clean entry
    - 2:58.586: missing note
    - ok, so this ending color bullshit looks REALLY fucking cool - not gonna lie. However, you need to control the difficulty -- even though it’s only jumptrills for the most part, the speed of which you have to execute is absurd at times: the craziness has note distances ranging from 22ms to 25ms (it averages around 45 NPS at peaks) between each note - the part at 4:10.653 comes out to an extended wall of approximately 168.75 BPM 64ths, which is just too much to demand
    - 4:30.341: what is this red wall of nothing
    - this file has solid structure and is brutally hard - but fair, until the end, which is bordering on unplayable
    - control the difficulty a bit better; remember, at 270 BPM, you don’t have the ability to be as freeform as you would like without the patterning getting stupid

        -1:59.088 changed this to a 16th jumptrill

-1:59.977 reduced trill speed by 25%

        -2:15.533 made minitrill slower

-2:16.866 i made this white burst easier to transition into by changing the start from 23 to 12. hope this is ok.

-2:21.977 made the burst at 2:22.273 easier

        -2:58.586 added missing note

-4:10.449 - 4:11.986 i changed this up a lot...it's still very hard, i am struggling a lot trying to figure out how to step this shit reasonably.

-removed red wall at the end, i forgot i left that in...

Sent small fixes to Brrrreeed Cicadididi. Tried to adjust the pattern mentioned, but will still result in 2-framers, but I think the pattern is a bit more doable now. Added a few more notes, and one little evil thing.

Fixed everything mentioned, as well as added a few missing synths I noticed upon revising the chart. PR for the quieter and more melodic sections should also be improved. Hope this gets the OK. I think I must have spent at least a total of 12 hours crafting and revising this one chart.

Fixed everything here too, made the jumps halfway through a lot clearer as to what it's following. PR generally improved in a lot of sections as well.

Both charts have had their updates uploaded and are ready to be confirmed.

Does anyone know what's going on with the Easy Batch? Is it being reviewed separately or maybe just used as needed for slot placements of the tourney?

ok im just gonna assume aj meant lil jon's very assertive AY should be layered in since it's pretty damn loud

thanks for the suggestions, fixed up a lot of structure

From what I've seen in past workflows for the tournament, the stages of priority is:

                    OT Batch
                    Easy Batch
                    Anything from the regular batches

in order to fill song round placements. OT Batch is taking priority atm from what I can see, Easy Batch won't start to take priority until OT Batch is looked at and if there's nothing that can fit into the spots necessary for the tournament.

                      Freedom Dive v2 (XelNya) [5.5/10]
                      Artist: xi -- Perms: OK

                      - 2.321/etc: misrhythm for kick, should be a 16th later - happens a few times
                      - 9.476: missing note?
                      - 16.833: ghost note; set of three 16ths starts at the 8th
                      - 22.571: not sure what’s being followed here that deserves attention given that it doesn’t remain accented throughout the section
                      - 41.066 to 44.306: the alternating in and out of following the melody just feels strange here, and also contributes to what is an ongoing issue with overall difficulty variance
                      - 46.668: missing note for kick
                      - 1:12.858: ^
                      - 1:40.736: remove jump
                      - 1:43.706: this mid-phrase change is really jarring and kinda removes the focus of the buildup that was decently structured with the triples and 8ths
                      - 1:46.946: should be 16ths
                      - 1:56.058: missing note
                      - 1:58.758: missing note for kick
                      - 2:01.661: missing note for melody
                      - 2:02.606: strange jump
                      - 2:04.833: missing note for kick
                      - 2:05.576: missing jump for clap
                      - 2:15.296: misrhythm
                      - 2:21.033: improper PR
                      - some jump representation inconsistencies off of your structure: 1:53.561: two jumps, 2:01.931: one jump, 2:10.571: one jump -- all instances of two consecutive kicks that you selectively accent
                      - additionally: 1:51.736 - seven consecutive jumps for seven kicks, 2:08.816 - only five consecutive jumps for seven kicks
                      - structure is inconsistent and difficulty variance is very wild
                      - song isn’t the most suitable for an OT anyway given that the v1 is gated as is

Sunset Sky Garden (gold stinger) [6.5/10]
                      Artist: Feather -- Perms: OK

                      - your offset does not properly reflect the song’s time signature/notation and the BPMs that you add actually put the song offset to a pink note; set the BPM to a flat 128 with no changes anywhere with an offset of -0.928 for correctly colored rhythms and proper measure placement
                      - 8.271: the drums actually play another here; it’s not like the two prominent snares in the first two instances
                      - 8.506/8.740: more missing percussion notes, some toms here
                      - 10.459: wouldn’t this be better on [U]?
                      - 12.568: conversely, wouldn’t this be better off [D]?
                      - 14.209/14.443/etc: additional instances where you can create some nice swingy jacks by actually following the tonality of the melody
                      - 34.853: sounds like a missing 32nd for something here
                      - 35.068: this trill feels out of place to me, given that the more musically accurate places for trills (26.865/41.865/45.381, etc) are actually more spread out patterns
                      - 54.990: move to [U]
                      - 1:04.365: probably should be a jump; however, why are all these jumps accented here but not at 1:01.787?
                      - 1:10.146/1:10.303: missing notes
                      - 1:17.803: bunch of missing percussion here for a transitional accent
                      - 1:11.240 to 1:26.162: jump usage is a little strange here - the snare very clearly accents all snares, which is good, but some of the other extraneous jumps are a little less clear; the triples feel a bit freeform in their placement and appear to accommodate for piano terminations - it’s not perfect but it’s reasonably acceptable
                      - 1:12.842: missing 48th for piano (you accent them at 1:14.209)
                      - 1:16.513: should be 32nds
                      - 1:43.896/1:44.131/1:44.365: ghost notes, echoes don’t land here either
                      - 1:47.646/1:47.881/1:48.115/etc: ^, check these to make sure you’re not adding things that don’t need to be there in the second phrase of this section
                      - 1:55.381/1:55.771: missing notes for snares
                      - 1:56.396: missing note for melody
                      - 2:10.537: missing percussion notes here, but I get it now after seeing it a few times; you’re trying to give the most power to the triples first to allow for the other notes to be sectional transitions - with that in mind, it feels alright
                      - 2:21.318: either move this jump to not feature the U, or better, move the whole [U][D][L] repeating triplet motif over to a [R][U][D] structure instead; it’ll more visually separate things -- as it is currently, you feature a [U][D][L] for two different melodic arpeggiations
                      - 2:24.287: very nice attention to detail
                      - 2:33.896/2:34.365: add the missing 48th after these two notes
                      - 2:35.928: missing note
                      - 2:37.334: missing note
                      - 2:41.631: how dare you accent this glissando with a forward roll instead of a backward one, shame on you (not really a big deal, just had to be silly)
                      - 2:50.537/3:20.537: with the exception of a few additional flourishes, this is a 32 measure copy/paste from earlier, and therefore any notes corresponding to that section will apply here as well
                      - as many things I perceive there to be incorrect with this file, I do like this song a lot and do think that it’s quite fun from a player perspective -- so I’ll keep your hopes alive with a CQ min-rating
                      - you’d do best to alleviate copy-pasting issues and capture the various missing elements -- given that you did a direct copy/paste at the end there, the song might play a little too long and a cut might be worth consideration

                      Tap on Damen (Pizza69) [8/10]
Artist: The Flashbulb -- Perms: OK

                      - the only thing that appears to be wrong with this file is the time signature itself; your BPM lends it to agreement with a 3/4 structure, but the melody and percussion line seem pretty clearly to be 4/4 structure -- with your current chart, the downbeat alternates between a red and a blue
                      - 1:04.077 to end: from start point of this section, it feels like some jumps are missing compared to your previous structure and there’s no real reason to omit them structurally/musically
                      - rhythms and PR are solid, no real complaints

Tower of Heaven -Full moon Revenge- (suicidaln00b) [7/10]
                      Artist: Yuuyu -- Perms: OK

                      - 23.436: move to [R] and move the L at 23.544 to a [D] for best pitch relevance
                      - 25.067: ghost note - melody doesn’t land here and percussion does not follow 16ths (if you intend on following percussion, you’re creating a polyrhythm)
                      - 26.479: this minijack is unnecessary; you’re already capturing the percussion using jumps and having minijacks on top of it, you’re creating an unnecessary double accent
                      - 29.454: missing note for melody
                      - 29.622: hi-hat is 24ths here
                      - 35.389/35.606: if you move these off of [D], then your pitch relevance at 35.714 that leverages a trill will be better noticed because it’s separated from the previous pattern
                      - 36.656: not quite the correct rhythm here
                      - 37.891: background sound continues to play 24ths until 38.740, so no 32nds until that point (with your current structure, there shouldn’t be any unless you decide to omit percussion)
                      - 41.738: if your structure aims to use the open hi-hats for jumps, this should be one
                      - 43.879/44.753/48.594: ^
                      - 50.327: this sequence of jumps doesn’t adequately follow the percussion
                      - 54.042/etc: if these white notes are for the hi-hats, then you’re missing notes at 53.973, 55.603
                      - 57.465: this is simply a 24th, at 57.456
                      - 59.042: missing 32nd for tom
                      - 59.738 to 1:03.181: jump usage here is a bit strange given that it’s almost certainly following percussion (inferred by the lack of jumps at 1:00.598/1:02.312), but it doesn’t give attention to the kicks at 1:00.492/1:00.704 or 1:02.204/1:02.421, and the 16ths running are for the melody meaning that even if you’re using accented layering or direct layering, there should be jumps here for sure
                      - 1:04.447: not sure why this triple is here over any other spot
                      - 1:05.260: the only thing that I can hear following this is the piano playing a single note that’s way in the background, and if that’s the case, then you should be putting the note on the 16th at 1:05.206
                      - 1:12.221: missing note for synth
                      - 1:20.307: noticeable copy paste, at least for the first half of this section; thankfully it’s short -- if you’re aiming to keep the jumps the same for pitch relevance purposes, that’s fine, but stuff in between can definitely be moved around a bit
                      - 1:31.988: missing note for kick
                      - 1:32.879: 12th jump here isn’t needed; the 16th (1:32.843) is where the accented open hi-hat is
                      - 3:16.721: missing jump for kick, given that this is a highly percussion focused section
                      - 3:29.519: no need for a jump here, imo
                      - some slight noticeable copy-pasted bits from the first half of the percussive climax, but not a huge amount - it’s passable
                      - jump usage needs some tuning up in a few spots and a few missing percussive elements can be picked up on, but this file has a respectable structure and does a good job progressing - a little bit of clean up on this file will go a long way

We Want To Run (Gradiant) [8.5/10]
                      Artist: Frums -- Perms: OK

                      - 21.482: not sure about the inclusion of this jack given that it’s the only time you follow this particular sound before having it carried away by the other melody - might be better to simply remove these notes altogether
                      - 39.057 to 46.958: note placement can be -slightly- improved for PR purposes, but it’s not that bad as is
                      - 1:13.131: missing jump for brass + percussion landing
                      - 2:29.427/2:37.328: I’d add the note here for the deep background kicks, but it’s most certainly not necessary given that the focus is the piano melody
                      - 2:47.451 to 3:032.54: <3 (althouuuuuuuugh, if we want to be picky, change at 2:50.414 is -technically- not necessary.)
                      - 3:43.501/3:51.402: missing triples?
                      - simple structure, but highly effective. good pitch relevance overall as well.
                      - great example of “very hard, but fair” in my eyes, though some might not agree with that ending.

''We Want To Run'' is one of my favorite frums songs. Pretty hyped for it.

Think issue here isn't really incorrect pr, but that the pr leads to that repeating 121 patterning which is a bit too left hand biased overall. Not liking the patterning when I change the mini left-hand sections though so I'm leaving them as is but slightly adjusting the patterning between them.
                          - 1:13.131: missing jump for brass + percussion landing

wasn't sure about it before sending in, but eh it's noticeable enough. added

Not solely focused on that runningman-ish sound in the foreground when patterning here. There's a descending pitch change in the background synth that changes overall chord sound here so I alternated the patterning slightly as well
                          - 3:43.501/3:51.402: missing triples?
                          yep, added.

Glad you liked it overall, thanks for the notes.

                            - your offset does not properly reflect the song’s time signature/notation and the BPMs that you add actually put the song offset to a pink note; set the BPM to a flat 128 with no changes anywhere with an offset of -0.928 for correctly colored rhythms and proper measure placement
Doing this makes everything outside the opening intro offset to a pink note for the major chords. I re-timed the intro so that it meets your specifications, but refusing to have all the major chords for the rest of the song land on 24ths.

I have fixed everything else in notes to exact specifications, and sent it in.

The major chords are -supposed- to land on 24ths. They are almost always 1/24 before percussion; nearly all melodic phrases terminate before downbeats from kicks or are cymbal crashes/open rides that come immediately before when a down beat is supposed to happen.

The file will remain CQ'd if that's not fixed, even if the resolution of errors brings the score to 7.5 or higher, because it is an offset issue.
