    Re: 2015 January/February Set 2

Song is missing about half of its notes, and is incomplete. Not sure if it's an error with the submission, or an error with hosting the song on the engine, but if neither is the case, than this is a pretty clear reject unless there was a 2nd file of the same name uploaded after this one somewhere.

God damn, this song is flawless. Like, I demand someone to find a problem with this file besides criticize the extremely fast [12][34][12][34] trills. It's practically Grocery Escape Plan on steroids, and if I'm not mistaken, the song is done by the same band, so this kind of overexaggeration on note placement works well with the tone of the song.

Don't believe me? Play it for yourself, I would definitely give it an 8 - 9/10, I can't really provide any good criticism other than doing this kind of stuff is really evil

oh, and this part made me laugh.

There is quite a huge jump in difficulty in the middle of the song due to jump jacks to hands.
    This stuff was alright:

but the extended jumpjack section was a killer on the hands, not to mention a tad hand biased imo:

Some people might weigh the score down on the song just because of that one section, but the rest of the song works pretty well.
    - from m32 to m35, there is an absence of jumps. I get the reason why there aren't any, but I think it would be better if the 12th 2-tap jump rhythm was incorporated in there, similar with what was done at m22 - m23.
    - This looks like difficulty filler right before the ending rolls. Considering the patterns before it, a [13][24][13][24]etc., pattern might suffice better.

    Overall
I would conditional queue it. However, if judge majority approved of it I wouldn't hesitate to approve it as well mostly because it's outside of my skill gap. I'm terrible at jacks, and you bet the song should probably be weighted in that favor since they are pretty fast jacks, all 180bpm of it.

How long is this song? This is by far longer than any song I think I've played on FFR besides The Games We Played full version. It feels like a full opera act, this song. nevertheless, complaining about the song aside, the song isn't all that difficult, but very long. 2800 notes in what feels like 10+ minutes, at the difficulty of what I could maybe pace at a 60 - 65 range because of its length.

    - Feels like stepper may have forgotten/misheard drums here, as all the previous sections had drums in them and I had no idea what the 64th accents here were going to.

    - Just a little note, that this is a really long file, and it is generally geared towards non d4-d7 players, so it might be a little bit boring. Not sure if that's worth taking into consideration or not.
Besides those 2 points, there isn't much to really nitpick at. It's slow, it's long, it's got 2800 notes.

    Overall
I don't know what I would do with this file. Part of me says to reject it because it may be too boring/empty in terms of steps, the other part of me says it's fine because the song is stepped half decently and I haven't much to nitpick at. If others feel the same with me on this that it's just a bit too boring, then yeah. That's where I'm gonna stand on it.

Ok, so. There are a lot of patterns in this song involving 32nds & 16th jumps (especially near the end of the song) that would consider dump-like, and don't follow anywhere near the difficulty for the rest of the song. Couple of examples are listed below:

    - You have an accidental jack right here, it's the only spot like this in the song.

    - This type of minitrill coming out of 32nds at 200bpm is really difficult to hit. Would recommend changing it to something more friendlier to PA.

    Overall
I think the stepfile was working out pretty well for itself for the first 66 measures with some minor issues that could have easily been fixed if the file were in a conditional, but at m67 it just feels like the file was given up on, and any instance of 32nd notes was dumped. It's very hard, if not impossible for players to PA a 32nd trill @ 200bpm, so it's getting a reject from me.

          7/10 pass

Very fast patterms at the beginning and near the end, and I am afraid the the song is a bit slow in other places to keep the song interesting enough to play, but this is not for me to decide really. The song is not very flowy, but neither is the music so ok. Technically the file is ok, so it's a pass.

          Diff ~83

          5/10 not pass

Nice to see this song here. With small changes would be very much better.
          - Jumpjack at M42 a bit sudden and maybe too hard.
          - I was thinking of difficulty 66 when we came to M55-M56, which is a huge difficulty peak. I'm afraid that the difficulty peak is too much to make the song enjoyable to play for both high and low level players. Likewise for M71 and M72, but this is clearly easier.
What I suggest is to change M55-M56 in a very much easier form. M71 and M72 could be the hardest part of the song near the end, but it could be a bit easier too.

          Diff 78

          -/10 DUH
This song is not finished or it has a really artistic ending. Promising, tho!

          5/10 not pass

The song is WAY too long and easy to keep me interested throughout it. And even if you would cut like 75% off of it, I see that this should be a song with a lot of color notes, but we see mostly 4ths and 8ths. I don't know is it just me but a lot of the arrows feel off. The hardest thing in playing this song is staying focused because of the length and simple pattern layering.

          Diff 30-35

          4.5/10 not pass

Nice and energetic song. The stepfile reminds me of In My Eyes from Eggman. The problem with the steps is that the song in most parts is fairly easy, but it has INSANE difficulty peaks which are completely unjustified:
          - M41 and M61 burst, the hand could be just a jump.
          - Before M81 the bursts are generally quite nice.
          - Trillbursts in M81, M83 and M84, NOPE! Maybe rolls instead?
          - M138 this pattern will make even D7 players piss blood.
          - M141 this is, well quite challenging. Reconsider this if you try again with this file.
          - M159 burst - that hand again.
          - M173-M174 ....NNNNNGGGGGGGGGHHHH!!!!

          Diff 87

The Impresario is just short of 9 minutes, so yeah that would make it the second longest song in FFR if it got accepted.

              Re: 2015 January/February Set 2

Heya guys, doing this one at a time again!!!

              Caffeine, that's in my caffeine!

              Wow

I agree with Gold Stinger, this file is MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

I love everything about it. The jump trills, the hands everywhere, the nod towards how Grocery Escape Plan was layered.

              MMM, MMM, MMM!

              However...

Dear lord my good sir, make those patterns a bit readable? I don't know, do something about it. I would maybe suggest not color it... but I suppose you were going for the caffeine bonus stage with it.

I really dun know, but I would really love to see something changed about that.

It's perfect, as far as I can tell, otherwise.

Workin' on dis one still, hold on.

              Ma-ri-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

This is a very VERY long file and it never picks up in difficulty either. That's right, we got I think 8 or whatever minutes of easy stuff in this file!

There's nothing inherently wrong with it, per-say. But if I were you, I would definitely (somehow) attempt to cut this beast so it's not a long easy file, because no one likes that (including new players, I would know, I was one of them many moons ago!)

Pretty much it. Oh, there's some spikes here and there, but I don't think you need to change those up... unless you decide to NOT cut it that is.

So if you don't wanna cut it, there's instances (mostly at the end) where the file throws some patterns a beginner player (I'm assuming this is the target player for this chart) would get flustered and mess up. I'd probably tone those patterns down just a tad.

I can gif if the stepper requests where. It's pretty much the last 1/4 of the file where I'm talking about.

              Maria is a bitch

              Let me preface this...

I'm gonna be honest with you, bro.

...This file, is not the best in the world. It's got a looooong road to become something great, unfortunately.

I thought the beginning pretty good, but then it feels like you lost the drive? I mean in the beginning, you clearly stepped a lot of the background 16ths. But as the file progressed, you started to ignore them, and make questionable burst patterns (and that 32nd trill, wat)

              Anyways...

So, this roll you got here ends in a hand. I know there's some charts on FFR that do that too but... eeeeeh... I feel like this doesn't call for a hand.

Oh my god... you best change this because this will NEVER get accepted to FFR like this, bucko!!!

Try roll-y bursts that you were doing in the beginning instead!

And this is... uh... I don't even, but change this too, OR ELSE

              And this is just unplayable.

Overall, those are essentially the huge NO NO'S in this file. The rest of the problems lie within the lack of notes in some sections. Missing 16ths and all that jazz.

I'd probably comb through the entire file ago if I were yoooooou.

                Caffeine | 6.5/ 10

I noticed alot of problems, but most of them were created by the wrong use of quads and hands, especially noticable during the ''caffeine'' parts where you put 2 quads behind eachother and the second ''caffeine'' was considerably louder. I also don't agree with anchoring the thrills in the beginning to the part after that.

                Entrance | 6/10

Patterns overall were pretty fluid. I liked the way you used jumps , didn't like the sections with like 10 mini jacks in a row, just seemed out of place in this song.

                Handsonic | 5/10

Song was incomplete, but that happens I guess when changes in the system are made. The song itself however was overstepped, it is definitely worth completing though, the song lends itself to be stepped. It felt slightly out of sync on lower rates though.

                The impresario | 7.5/10

Impressive.. Long file, lot's of bpm changes and alot of voices. This is not an easy file to step. My biggest problem was that the first 1800 notes were slightly repetitive as weird as that may sound, I also noticed some slight out of sync arrows, but that can be easily fixed. You put alot of time in this and it's really not that bad. I would seriously consider cutting bits of the file though especially in the beginning.

                TRIGGER HAPPY | 5.5/10

                '
                WARNING: this file is loud
File felt really empty at parts and way too dense at others. There was an extremely trolly thrill in the middle that is unacceptable in a file like this.

Don't start being passive-aggressive, it's not okay to submit incomplete files and we're not going to get into a big argument over it again.

I won't be too picky with offsets in here since I know sometimes the converting is wack

                            8.5/10

I subtracted 1 point cause psychostick
                            Superior file

                            4.5/10

                            Pitch relevancy is eh...
during the first half of the file, there are bass kicks one the 2nd 8th note triplet sometimes stepped as a single arrow. Second half, they are stepped as jumps. INCONSISTENCY

m27 - on beat 4, there are 8th note triplets that are unstepped.
m35 - matching arrows to follow the piano line more would be fantastic here. Then again, pitch relevancy seems to be non esistant in this chart.

Feels like another 12/8 chart with artificial jacks to raise the difficulty.
but in this case it just seems like notes were placed without considering the juxtaposition of arrows and music.

                            8/10

                            This is fuxckign long
                            ...good chart though

I aint playing that again - as far as I could tell on 2x rate, everythin was good.
I'll let the actual judges get nitpicky with this cause damn

                            1/10

                            dump file

spilled abuncha goods on the [14][23] trill near the end ssss

                            >"-2" global offset
                            >down beat of music starts on beat 2 of m9 in chart... similar problem "Year of the Bad Dragon" had in set 1.

m17 - 3rd beat; the upbeat 16th note synths are notated here, but at m33 the 2nd 16th isn't. Makes it feel like a ddr chart.
m19 - 3rd beat; no other instance of this rhythm is a jack except this one.
m111-m119 - almost, but not quite how the rhythm goes. restep it

                            Fun file, not FFR material.

                              Expect delays.

I bet this was stepped by hi19. Reminds me of THE LITTLE MERMAID. lmao. I loved the song. The offset felt wrong. My only issue are the jacks/jumpjacks in the later half. I feel they're exaggerated and should be toned down.

                              Entrance: 6.5/10 light accept
Song offset feels wrong. These jacks were unfair, and the stream right before the end has a one-handed trill which seems unjustifiably unfair to me...

                              The Impresario: 5.5/10 light reject
Yeah, the file lasts forever. Don't play this song with a full bladder. However, it is truly diverse and I believe it has tons of potential! My main gripe with the chart is the amount of missing/ghost notes, making it feel like it lacked polish. The song being so long, it's hard to point at precise spots... but yeah. That's my impression. Also, either the conversion killed this file, or the sync needs some tweaking, too.

                              TRIGGER HAPPY: 5/10
This file has TONS of potential, but at the moment is simply unfair. The jumps and hands at the end of almost every bursts... The fact you put some of these bursts as trills... The jumpjack glut right before the end... It's simply clashes way too much with the rest of the file, which is solidly and fairly stepped!
