Overlay setup isn't cheating. Hell, we can go as far as to say KEYBOARD PLAY is cheating because this is all based on DDR anyway which calls for legs. And yet we don't consider four-finger play cheating. What about alternating between fourfinger and index for tough trill patterns?

As far as I'm concerned, all that matters is that you have four input buttons -- nothing more, nothing less. After that, you can go crazy and hit them however you want.

My personal opinion: anything that the game allows without modification isn't cheating. Manipulating framers, changing finger placements mid-song, mirror abuse, speedmods, noteskins. If the game explicitly lets you do it, it's not wrong.

Anyway: First clean FC on Reality (37 goods and only one average, pretty nice for me)
