eh... raine is good only for healing, but you can use kratos/zelos for that too...
I think the best party is lloyd/presea/genis/raine, but that's just me. You can substitute genis with kratos/zelos too for a melee heavy party :P
I have no idea how you beat mania mode without using raine at all x.X even though shes a pain in the arse to revive, her major heals are very useful.

My party was always Lloyd, Genis, Kratos, Raine (NOTE HOW I AM NOT SPOILING THE GAME FOR OTHERS)

I was Lloyd my first time through. Now I'm playing as Genis since I have insta-cast.

Lots and lots of ressurection items. And overleveling. I kept my techs, gems and money because I could beat the first boss without mah monah.

Oh, and the fire shrine boss took me a few months to beat on mania, I hate him. He's so much harder then kvar.

i use raine because her healing really is awesome and some of her high level spells kick ass
