I don't understand why everything here has to turn into an argument. I don't understand why this has to be an argument. Stepmania has changed the speedmods CONSTANTLY.. They've made it so YOU could edit the mods and they've made it obvious.

Why not let people have edited metrics? Don't be an uptight little bitch.

As for Cmods, as long as the song has no stops or serious BPM changes, who cares? It'd be the same thing as edited in a mod to get that speed.

Alright.. since I'm against editted metrics, I might aswell post.
First of all, let me tell you the MAIN reason it's cheap.
You're fucking editting the software to make it easier for you. If that isn't as cheap as using a cheat code on some old SNES game, I'm not sure what is.

Yes, I can read a little faster then most, but I've adjusted for that. I learned over time to read that fast. I didn't need to edit my software to make it easier for me so I could get scores like other people. Plus, it feels like cheating. The only editted mod I have is 5x, and I don't consider that an "editted mod" for the sole reason it's on DDR, and has been in previous Stepmania's many times before. 3.00 final has 3x, 4x and 5x.

Honestly though, if the SM team decided to stop including the speed mod metric coding in their themes, you guys would be complaining quite a bit. Granted you would use older alpha's, but over time you would have to switch.

Speed reads for me:
0-80bpm = 8x.
80bpm-135bpm = 5x
135bpm-180bpm = 4x
180bpm-230bpm = 3x
230bpm-360bpm = 2x
360bpm-500bpm = 1.5x
500bpm+ = 1x

This is what I have learned to play by. Soon those BPM speeds will increase for each mod.. but you know, like I said, I've learned to play with just those mods.

You may notice that it is the ONLY mod you can edit in without errors occurring. That is because it is defined in english.ini already, and is therefore free game.

I didn't even bother reading the rest of the posts... Origamikid, if I can AAA some newbie ddr songs on 1x, and you can't does that mean I'm better then you at ddr songs? You could argue that using speed mods are cheap and should only be used for new players... But its not true... Heck, not everyone even knows about speed mods... its people that take a little bit of time to research stuff that found out about these mods. Same with editing the metrics to put in your own mods... You took a little bit of time to change the speed mods so that you can read at what speeds you like... At least everyone is being open about it and not setting their default scroll speed to c650 or something... Using c650 doesn't make it any easier to move your fingers fast enough to hit a bunch of keys, and it doesn't change the timing in any way, so why should it be cheap? Its like those DDR dumbasses who say that using speed mods is cheap, and using the bar is cheap... If its so cheap, why don't they use them and beat me at it? They can't? Okay then... fuck them

Same with Percussion freaks and autobass... theres this fucking retard who can only pass 30's w/o autobass, and when Nima passes 90's, he says its because Nima uses autobass... Then this retard uses autobass and fails 40's... Whose better? Nima obviously... if you think that something is giving someone else an advantage over you, just kill the advantage and use those mods yourself... whatever.

Or you could always go and edit the song and change the bpm etc so instead of using 2.5x etc, you'd change the songs speed rate to match your comfort zone... but that takes too much work...


OKAY, back to cmods being cheap... Back to some people liking to stay at one bpm... why should I put 1.34342342342x into my metrics if I can put a cmod into a song that doesn't have any bpm changes? Its not fucking cheating... if I beat Joe on c650, and he used 2.75x, I'm obviously better... its not cuz of the fucking cmod.
