Songs of the Week (September 22nd, 2012)
Six more files this week because we love you all. I swear it has nothing to do with quickly cleaning out the queue. Only love.
[Sept. 22 Released Songs]
Xanthystrauma by ScylaaX (MarioNintendo) – Brutal [85] / 3:13 / Dance 2 / Terrorcore
Reminders by sempus (hi19hi19) – Very Challenging [62] / 3:27 / Rock / Instrumental Rock
Intersect Thunderbolt by S.S.H. (kommisar) – Expert [69] / 2:07 / Rock / Hard Rock
In An Instant by The Flashbulb (MrPopadopalis25) – Very Easy [10] / 1:52 / Classical / Easy Listening
Hello (Luke Da Duke Remix) by Luke Da Duke (megamon88) – Very Challenging [64] / 2:50 / Purchased / Electro House
Danzai Yamaxanadu! by IOSYS (kjwkjw) –Very Difficult [49] / 2:31 / Dance / J-Pop
Might as well start with the hardest of the bunch. By far the most difficult of MarioNintendo’s charts FFR has seen, Xanthystrauma is absolutely brutal. Like Scythe of 13 on bath salts. Although I won’t lie, even though the chart’s ridiculously hard to score on, it’s stepped damn well and carries great replay value. The track itself is fantastic (I expect no less from young musical prodigy ScylaX) so even if you aren’t skilled enough to actually understand what the hell’s going on during that last quarter of the file, at least it’s still fun as hell to flail about like a fish out of water on your keyboard and pretend like you do! Props Felix, would love to see your take on more insanely difficult charts in the future.
Although it’s both long and a rock song, don’t be quick to dismiss this next file as ‘just another long rock song’, because this particular release made me happy. I remember sempus posting this song on the forums a while back, asking for a stepartist to take a look at it and toss some arrows to it. Glad hi19 decided to give it a whirl, because I really enjoyed Reminders. Rated a 62, constant 12th jumpstreaming with occasional 24th rolls or accents awaits players in this chart. It’ll definitely test consistency, but shouldn’t prove to be too difficult for our more avid keysmashers. A great file worth checking out~
Our Stepmania veterans might recognize this next chart. Kommisar’s Intersect Thunderbolt sits at a 69 in difficulty and features blazing 250bpm 16th streams and 8th note jumpchains. Yet another song to add to the ever-growing S.S.H. collection, this one is definitely one of my favorites. The chart’s filled with incredibly fluid stream patterns mixed with a constant barrage of notes, giving players very little time to take a breather. Averaging out at almost 12 taps per second, you’ll need to have some speed under your belt (and in your fingers) if you wish to conquer this file. Keep ‘em coming, Kommi.
Next in line is In An Instant by The Flashbulb, which graces FFR as a nice follow-up to last week’s Bodies in the House Next Door, but filled with nowhere near the same amount of what I’m pretty sure DDR likes to call ‘chaos’. A short and relaxing piano tune to tap along to, MrPopadopalis25 did a swell job on the eighth chart to be added to his FFR repertoire. Some players might stumble on the 64th grace notes that appear a few times throughout the file – don’t fret, grace notes have caught even the best players. Look for this file on the second page of the Classical genre.
Everyone and their grandmas probably know this song after the amount of airplay this thing got two summers ago. Turns out that megamon88 loved it so much, he decided to step Luke Da Duke’s remix of it! Hello (Luke Da Duke Remix) is, unfortunately, a purchased song. Good news though, it’ll only set you back 1500 credits! Which, in this day and age of the FFR economy, may or may not be peanuts for some users. In any case, low price = practically everyone can enjoy this file! Lots of tricky jacks and split bursts lurking about in this file, but mmm do they ever feel satisfying to hit. Combined with Dragonette’s sexy vocals and we’ve got a real winner of a file here.
Lastly we have Danzai Yamaxanadu!, stepped by kjwkjw, or kajookajoo, which is how I honestly believe you pronounce his username. I have no idea what the hell that girl is babbling on about in this song, which is fitting I suppose because I have no idea how to say kjw’s name. But I digress… Certainly an interesting tune nonetheless, but you have to agree it’s stepped well. The file’s relatively tame aside from the quick 16th jumpstream flourishes, which knocks the rating on this song up to a solid 49. Watch out for the coloured note section during that one part where the girl turns into a chicken. I’m sorry, that’s the best way I can word that.
Please also take note that both YOSHl’s super mario bros theme (original NES is awesome) and MarioNintendo’s In Flux (5 Note Piano Prelude) are now available for public play. Or don’t, pfft I don’t care, your loss.
Have at it, kids. And middle-aged adults (I’m not judging you, don’t worry).

I still want Intersect Thunderbolt for SM. All of the d/l links for the pack are gone and away and I can’t ever get it. =| Also, why is Intersect Thunderbolt not in the Arcade section since it is the final boss’s theme song in eXceed3rd, a game? xD
