As far as medals went from the last tourn. You guys will just have to ask the admins when/if that is even being followed through with. Afaik, it was only ever an ‘idea’ that was taken as a certainty during the tourn.

Oh. Damn. I’ll be vacationing for two weeks in July and won’t be able to play then. But I’ll still sign up anyway and hope the schedule works out somehow.
I’m guessing the new difficulty system will be in place before this, and that’d be good … Probably will help more with division placement.
In case there aren’t enough FMO/FGOs being accepted in this current batch, just make sure to save some of the ones still in the queue for the last rounds of the tournament so we don’t have to have /another/ really-hard batch so soon.

Darkkal: I don’t know where you heard that, but no one hacks in these tournaments. People might make excuses if they can’t AAA a song they need to advance, but you don’t have to worry about losing to a hacker.

Darkkal: in the past, some people have indeed cheated by “sandbagging”, which is pretending to be in a lower division (usually by creating an alt account) than their skills truly represents. However, measures are taken against this now, and every participant will have his or her IP checked upon entry.

It was not only an IDEA, I asked before putting it on the prize list and was told yes. Another big reason I left staff because no one ever follows through with anything, then I get to take the blame for other people not doing what they say they will.

Sorry if it appeared that I was passing blame Kayla. The only reason I mentioned that “Afaik, it was only ever an ‘idea’”, is because every time it has been mentioned, it hasn’t been acted on. I was only offering my interpretation of the events that caused it to not happen, and in no way was implying that any individual person was responsible for it ending up that way.
You did a fantastic job of hosting the last tourney, and things that are out of your control are exactly that; Out of your control.
I can bring the medals from last year back up with the coders and see if we can get something happening. But as of the current moment, I have no intention of promising ‘medals’ to players when I have no certainty of them being made available. Should this change in the coming months leading up to the tourney, I will announce it immediately on the front page as those users that earned them deserve the recognition imo.
That being said, ~hype~

There needs to be a D7 set as a standard for FFR, placing low D6 players against Doss/Xay/Alex/etc. is just unfair, it also allows you to bump the highest of each division up a notch to spread out skill more evenly :3

If D7 exists, I am not D7. I can’t do anything faster than 280bpm streams, nor am I any good at mid+ FGO files. I’m good at AAA’ing, hence my high FGO AAA count.

feel like I should leave a note here about 7 divisions: I am entirely against it for exactly the opposite reasons listed above – those who are in the middle-upper area of D6 that have busted their butts to be in the competing (but not quite dominating, just yet) area get shafted in a 7 division tournament setup; it’s considerably more fair to have six divisions when players have worked hard enough to get to where they belong in a particular division. A low D6 player stays in D6 in a 7-division setup, but a mid-high D6 level player that could stand a chance at vRofl in a 6-division setup has the potential to get their chances ripped right out of their hands in seven divisions. The divisional expansion needs to stop already; there’s no need for seven divisions.

Halogen, by that logic, it would be better to have 1 division than the way we have setup now because those who have worked harder get further, not the current “if you’re this skill level then you won’t make it past this, but if you’re this skill level then you have a good chance of making it to round x”. I vote for 7 Divisions simply because of the huge influx of D4/5/Low D6 players there have been since the last official.

d1 still kind of is for beginners
at that skill level improvement happens a lot faster though so it becomes a sort of race as the tournament progresses
a great many of the D1 participants do begin at basically the same skill level
