Christmas Event Day1 ~Cross-event with Thirdstyle~
What’s this? We have a tournament going on and despite that, we’re doing ANOTHER special event?
Madness!
But no, this is really happening- and what’s better, this special holiday event is happening in conjunction with the rhythm gaming site ThirdStyle! While our communities have certainly had their differences, at its heart ThirdStyle shares the same love for music and rhythm gaming that we have here at FFR, and together we hope these holiday file releases bring some extra joy to this time of year.
From today to Dec 25 there will be one release a day, alternating between sites. Let’s kick this off here on FFR with the following file:
Reality Hits You Hard Bro by The Gregory Brothers (DossarLX ODI) – Hip-Hop (Autotune Song) / Tricky / 1:50
This song has a background flash movie created by the step artist of the song, DossarLX ODI. Unlike Party 4U or Marisa Stole the Precious Thing, you won’t have trouble in arrow reading that much so don’t worry about the movie. Let’s enjoy watching and playing.
That’s it for this update. Enjoy your arrow smashing… and good luck if you’re still in the Official Tournament!
We’ll have a new song on Thirdstyle tomorrow!

Yo don’t h9 on ThirdStyle, it’s a good site… Apart from the fact it’s deader than here.
Posted at 8:41am on December 14th, 2011
Cool, this might get me to start playing TS as well as FFR :3
Posted at 8:43am on December 14th, 2011
I just don’t like the engine.
Posted at 8:46am on December 14th, 2011
I want the SM file for this song. All of Dossar’s songs have been a little bit offsync but I need to see what these assist ticks sound like, because wow. I’ll give him Positively Inclined, but when are you guys gonna stop adding slippery offsync files? And the background! It doesn’t lag, but for a song you have to play with your eyes, it doesn’t help.

It’s not even like this file is hard, it’s just outrageous. It’s like if you gave a Legacy File a Video, and then e– wait, did I just call Dossar’s files the new Legacy Files? I think I did.
Posted at 10:40am on December 14th, 2011
Thank god this was not another party 4u video or I would have broke down and cried.
Posted at 10:41am on December 14th, 2011
Can we seriously ban people who are just bandwagoning with the whole “lol TS” thing? You guys are idiots. Stop trying to instigate drama between the sites.
-
Also, I wasn’t a fan of this file when I had to judge it, and I most certainly am not a fan of it now. The background isn’t an enticement to use for a simfiling event – players want good files, not gimmicky files.
Posted at 10:44am on December 14th, 2011
Also, a second post for good measure: people also need to stop treating Dossar like garbage because he likes to chart different kinds of files, both dumpy and legitimate. Dossar charts better than a large majority of you guys who consistently call his files bad, so you really hold absolutely no merit when you give your opinion. This isn’t 2007/2008 – let the whole “treat Dossar like shit” thing, go.
-
But yeah, sorry Roy – I’m not a fan of this file from you. Cheers to hoping you make another file that the community likes.

What happened to h8ers gonna h8?
I agree this TS vs FFR thing has to disappear quickly because we shouldn’t have any bad blood between rhythm games.
But my opinion on this file still stands. Do like song, don’t like the chart. The first half was good, but the second half was where it just got sloppy. It’s not even a 3M song, either. If it was, then maybe I’d understand, because I’ve had days where I was just like fuck it, but damn, it’s only about a minute long.
p.s. I’m not on the “Hate Dossar” bandwagon, I’m on the “Step files properly and professionally” bandwagon.
Posted at 11:04am on December 14th, 2011
lol maybe sloppy isn’t the right word for how I feel about that section, more of boredom and able to notice the sync mess up more.
Posted at 11:09am on December 14th, 2011
There’s a difference between “I don’t like this file” and “If I hit every arrow in this chart at the same time I hear the sound it corresponds to, I’ll get nothing but goods.”
Dossar picks excellent songs, I have to give him that. He really needs to start using ddream or whatever will let him visually see how badly he’s syncing things.
Also, I hate TS for the same reason: syncing issues. I probably sound like a broken record, but when you’re talking about musical rhythm games, being 30ms off is really a HUGE deal, and having an engine that starts onsync but slides to 1500 ms offsync by the end of a 2 minute song, then yeah, fuck TS. Ban me if you want. I can be nice, I’m too honest to flatter things that truly suck.
Posted at 11:16am on December 14th, 2011
I have yet to experience that issue regarding TS and the song going offsync by the 1500ms by the end of a 2 minute song.
Posted at 11:25am on December 14th, 2011
It was an exaggeration.
Also, maybe playing FFR is Dossar’s Forte, but I’m not about to say Dossar is the best stepartist.
Posted at 11:26am on December 14th, 2011
Every time I see a post about TS, I go back thinking maybe it’s changed, but that’s exactly the problem that’s always there. I know because it’s unignorable. I can look the other way when I see unplayable 300bpm 128th patterns that look like Eclipse walls at 900a, and some of the other stupid crap TS tries to pull, but not when its fundamentals are so neglected. I’ll try to get a video of it. I can’t make this stuff up.
Posted at 11:49am on December 14th, 2011

On the first day of FFRmas, the admins gave to me, an auto-tuned tricky.
Good to see us not all HERP DERP TS SUCKS all over the place. Great idea.
Posted at 2:01pm on December 14th, 2011
Not sure why we’re doing something in partner with TS; I don’t mind the site, but their community seems to HATE us.
About this file: it’s actually pretty accurate, but I think the offset is wrong (try offset 1). The reason it’s all 16ths is because Dossar deliberately colored it that way. And I’m glad to see this song ingame – I actually think FFR has plenty of “good” technical charts, and could use a few more fun gimmicky ones.
Posted at 2:02pm on December 14th, 2011
Mike: “I blow at TS and dossar files, wtf man TS sucks, fuccin lag, dossar sucks, fucc him.”
gg.
ts <3 i'm with zero on this one, mike's replies mean nothing to me but i cant play TS, fuck that site. I cant play dossar files, fuck him. Glad both sites are together on this event!
Posted at 2:12pm on December 14th, 2011
Oh cmon, I can run TS smoothly, it’s just like FFR, you just need to fix your lag. As for the community, it would be funny to say that they’re FFR haters since most of them are actually FFRers who just wanted to try something new lmao.. Tasselfoot also left TS and the rest of the crew doesn’t seems to be against FFR at all. I mean if they’re doing this event it’s because they’re actually trying to do the opposite. I mean I don’t even get where you guys get your information from..
Posted at 2:13pm on December 14th, 2011
@qq: it’s just a neat idea, and at the same time it might dispell stupid myths about site rivalries. And since Tass left TS, such a gap is not going to widen like it has previously. We only can hope that people are going to be mature about it.
Posted at 2:36pm on December 14th, 2011
I loved this file lol
The video was extremely hard not to watch… SUBTITLES~~
Yea, those subtitles I caught myself reading more then half the file. Still loved it
Posted at 2:50pm on December 14th, 2011
lol FFR
Posted at 2:53pm on December 14th, 2011
I can run TS smoothly too. It even has the right offset. It just happens that the engine makes everything slide offbeat as the song goes on, as if the bpm was wrong and everything else was right. And I do love the graphics. I find it unplayable because of the bpm problems and the dumpy un-AAA-able charts.
qq: That’s what I mean by offsync. It’s not a synth file, but considering how easy it is to just find the right offset and slap it onto your chart, it’s really unacceptable not to. It’s something you have to try pretty hard to get wrong, but Dossar does it over and over again despite being someone I know is very intelligent. I don’t even know what to tell you.
And yeah, I can’t play his charts, but that’s more because they’re insane FGOs than the offset. My mind can compensate for a crappy offset if it’s small. It’s not fun, but I can do it.
Posted at 3:10pm on December 14th, 2011
I don’t think the offset is Dossar’s fault, though, since the original chart is synced properly. In the conversion from the SM chart it must have gotten off by a frame somewhere, and it’s an easy fix (which reminds me, why is this not being fixed now
).
Posted at 3:35pm on December 14th, 2011
I don’t have a problem with the file, it’s different for sure, but I think that’s a good thing, no one wants every file to be the same. And about TS, I like both sites, but I prefer FFR, but in my opinion TS needs to be given some time before people judge it so harshly, it really hasn’t been up for all that long. I think it’s great that both sites are doing somewhat of a collaboration thing.

@m. weedmark: restart your computer lately? fixes 97% of problems running ThirdStyle.
ahaha, just played this file. aside from that strange sync issue that popped up, it’s hilarious.

About the chart: The problem with background animations isn’t distraction so much as lag. When people lag as it is sometimes, you don’t want to introduce more lag. This one wasn’t so bad only because it didn’t have tons of arrows. I understand it is supposed to be ‘gimmicky’ or whatever but I’d rather background videos not become a staple. There was a good reason charts stopped using background animations and pictures long ago.
Posted at 6:12pm on December 14th, 2011
About ThirdStyle: I will assume TS works correctly for most Windows users. It does not work correctly for other users. Sync is so off for me it isn’t playable (and no, this isn’t a “restart your computer” or “reinstall flash” or “upgrade flash” situation). I can’t find the right offset to use, which could be remedied if they made a special calibration mode for getting your sync right. FFR works correctly across multiple OS platforms. TS does not. Nothing against the game/community itself, but needs work so non-Windows users can enjoy it.
Posted at 6:26pm on December 14th, 2011
@username: is the sync consistently off, or drifting? if it’s just off, you need to do a bit of experimenting with the offset numbers. and it isn’t that bad; i found the particular offset for this computer to be -530 (yes, a whole half-second off, but consistently) fairly quickly. i run ubuntu 11.10, not windows.
Posted at 6:38pm on December 14th, 2011
Consistently off. Tried and tried and tried and tried lots of offsets with no success. Is why I suggest if they added some kind of calibration mode or at least a purposely easy calibration test song.
Posted at 7:10pm on December 14th, 2011
Since everyone is throwing a hissy fit about the offset of this file, I will make an updated .swf with a later offset and have jimerax upload it ASAP.
Posted at 7:16pm on December 14th, 2011
By the way, the file is onsync (in stepmania) just like how Jamais Deux and Kidney Stone are onsync. If you also think those two files I mentioned are offsync, you’re being retarded because those ARE the right BPMs.
Posted at 8:09pm on December 14th, 2011
@inDheart: That offset does seem to help a lot but it’s still not quite perfect but at least playable. So thanks for that.
@Dossar: Your song seemed perfectly synced to me. But I’m thinking maybe the background animation might be throwing sync off for some people?? (just a guess)
Posted at 9:35pm on December 14th, 2011
Idgaf about offsync. I don’t notice it because half the time I play FFR, I’m hammered. LIKE WILSON.

Posted at 1:10am on December 15th, 2011
I don’t doubt that Dossar’s files are perfect in SM, I liked qq’s explanation. It just seems like more than coincidence to me that almost every one of his files is off by an almost undetectable but still derpy amount, and nothing else on FFR is, not in the same way :/ I goddamn adore his music choices though, if nothing else.
And I wouldn’t say “everyone” is throwing a hissy fit. I feel like _I_ have probably been annoying, if anyone, but whatever. Can’t delete my own comments here. I don’t feel like anyone deserves a new swf just because I bitched either. Waste of your effort Dossar, it’s seriously fine the way it is.
Posted at 1:12am on December 15th, 2011
idgaf if people flame me for this. FFR needs to take a leaf out of TS’s book for aesthetics (graphics, music, sound qualities). TS needs FFR’s engine and fanbase.
We’re all rhythm gamers trying to play for the same reason. COEXIST, DAMMIT. >:c
Now for the super flame part: We need to merge, and put aside our differences, or even just build an affiliation. This is like if Canada and USA held a grudge against eachother instead of having Trade, and Friendship. Hurr come the -1s, but damn you know I’m right.

the song gets funnier every time i play it
