6th Official FFR Tournament: Quarter-Finals!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on December 20th, 2011

After five intense rounds of competition, we’ve gotten down to our top 8 in each division…

…or so we thought.

REMEMBER: All scores for this tournament are recorded automatically. See the tournament dashboard to see how you’re doing in comparison to your opponents!

Division 1 Round 5 Tiebreaker: Eclipse
Division 1 Round 6: Liberate

There’s quite a bit of action going on in Division 1. Before we go on, let us give a round of applause to Escha, screamin_rich, _DarkLink_, xMUSICxMASTERx, TheThong, DAMAN4, akidaki, lk3v1nl, Trivalent, NickGallagher7, takumi000, and PrezEvil for getting a perfect score on the Round 5 song and pushing themselves that much closer to the Vertex BETA vrofl prize! In order to get your hands on the token, your score has to be one of the top eight places on the tiebreaker. For four of you, the journey of the FFR official tournament ends here. Your tiebreaker song is Eclipse by 0 that averages over 10 taps a second…in only 43 and a half seconds, it has 441 steps! To make things even more difficult, it carries the fastest pace out of any of your tournament songs so far, using broken 16ths into and out of jumps AND triples. Prepare yourselves – this song packs a small but serious punch.

Once our top 8 have emerged from the rubble of Eclipse, you’ll be playing Liberate by Disturbed (yes, that Disturbed), a Very Difficult rated chart by former moderator and simfile judge Rebirth0. The round 6 song for the Beginner division tests consistency with a song that uses broken 16th runs mixed with jumps throughout the entire song, with occasional 32nd note bursts (haven’t seen much of those, now have we?) following aggressive snare rushing. This is also your longest song so far, running at three minutes and twenty five seconds. Welcome to the battle of the top 8, D1.

Division 2: Haruka Kanata
The intermediate division pushed very hard last round, making the cutoff a very steep 3-0-0-1 on a Challenging rated file! Congratulations to i will pwn u, gold stinger, Buttoxin, hobgoblinpie, fenderg, magicturbo, ghost-, and reuben_tate for filling the top 8! Now, we bring you Haruka Kanata by Yuuyu, another Challenging rated file, stepped by kjwkjw. This time, you’ll be facing a faster song with a more aggressive chart structure, featuring some smaller 32nd bursts in between your typical Challenging rated 16th runs, on top of short roll bursts as well. Time to step up your game.

Division 3: Captain Murasa’s Ass Anchor
MOAR COWB–TOUHOU. More touhou. Yes. D5′s Magical Higan Tour 2009 was not the last of the Touhou files in this tournament. Congratulations to The_Toymaker, AD4M-V, jgano, supermoe1985, 21992, rayword45, sticklydude, and jarsh for making the cut to the quarter finals! Captain Murasa’s Ass Anchor is a rendition of Touhou 12′s Stage 4 boss music by IOSYS that appears in the tournament as a higher-end Very Challenging difficulty file, charted by StepMania simfiling guru Gundam-Dude. High speed broken jumpstream is prevalent in this song, but to add a nice touch, Gundam-Dude added a cool little gimmick that switches color to follow male/female vocals. Good luck!

Division 4: Mermaid Island
How can anything sounding as pleasant as Mermaid Island POSSIBLY be harder than an energetic course of colors? Our D4 quarter-finalists SD_Tsugamush, yo man im awesome, CammyGoesRawr, YOSHl, DarknessXoXLight, sjoecoolv2, Zakvvv666 and hi19hi19 will find out playing Mermaid Island by S.S.H.. It is a For Masters Only file by the stepartist writing all of the tournament posts (if you haven’t figured this out who this is yet, please click the link :( ). Mermaid Island challenges the Expert division in two skill-sets that haven’t really been stressed in this tournament – trills, and jacks. Featuring many pitch relevant melodies and constant layering changes, it’s surely to put D4 in their place once and for all. Have fun!

Division 5: Indo No Sobaya
The remainder of the Master division (congratulations to Stage:, MikeShinoda12345, Coolboyrulez0, Elite Ninja, Choofers, kmay, rushyrulz, and justin_ator) takes another for the team with Indo No Sobaya, another t+pazolite song that follows suit with the typical fast pace and tricky pattern structure. This time, you’ll be playing a low For Gurus Only chart created by _.Spitfire._ that uses more some very tricky pattern transitions and extremely fast bursts. It is arguably comparable in difficult to Magical Higan Tour, so it’s quite possible that D5 will have another cut-throat round.

Division 6: Slashmaid (Instrumental)
The final 8 of our Guru division (DossarLX ODI, samurai7694, TC_Halogen, Xayphon, leonid, One Winged Angel, xThai, and Ziergdsx18) turn it up a HUGE notch with Slashmaid (Instrumental) by paraoka, a For Gurus Only file by DossarLX ODI. This chart brings the pain with tons of streaming ranging anywhere from 225 to 275 BPM 16ths, constant 8th note triple/jump spamming, and a brutally fast pace that doesn’t let up for very long. There’s not much to say about this chart other than the fact that it is painful.

Good luck!

  5. Re=place Dossar’s Slashmaid with the Scintil one please. It’s way better. By a lot.

Also rape moans are what made that song taking them out = :(

    Good luck I guess.

  6. Good luck everyone.

NOW YOU PULL OUT THE PATTERNS I’M GOOD AT
    TT^TT

  17. “is letting dossar play a song he stepped really fair?”

In the end, will it matter? Is there any song by anyone he won’t AAA unless the final D6 song is something like RATO?

  18. who knows. then again, he’s still missing 2 AAA’s last i checked.

  19. he’s missing 3:
    crowdpleaser
    dp
    rato

  20. Rato almost doesn’t count though because it’s physically impossible (watch him AAA it now because I said this) to AAA.

  21. I’m a bit confused on the devision one Eclipse song battle. Is our score automatically recorded? If I AAA’d the last song, do I even need to do Eclipse?
And is there a dashboard for this tiebreaker?
    Sorry for the confusion

    Rich

  22. @screamin_rich
You have to take a screenshot of your score and post it in the official thread. I think a message was sent out to everyone so you might want to check your inbox.

  23. I noticed that Dossar AAA’d this rounds song but it didn’t register on the dashboard. It still says Leonid has the only AAA and Dossar with 1 good. ???

  24. finally a Roughsketch song
