6th Official FFR Tournament: Round 3

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on November 29th, 2011

All of you who are reading this post and are still in the tournament – congratulations! You’ve made it through the first quarter of the tournament. Don’t take your achievement lightly; even though you’re only a quarter of the way through the tournament, you’ve outlasted over half of your competition! Keep the competitive juices flowing!

REMEMBER: All scores for this tournament are recorded automatically. See the tournament dashboard to see how you’re doing in comparison to your opponents!

Division 1: Transparent White
Two huge cuts in Division 1, and we’ve landed on Transparent White, another Tricky rated file by seasoned stepartist Silvuh. Transparent White tests all of the same things that the previous round tested, but kicks up the speed a considerable amount. On top of the speed increase, there are some tricky rhythms for a file of this level, introducing some really tight swing rhythms. Not sure what I’m talking about? Try it for yourself.

Musician: Nardis
Stepartist: Silvuh
Difficulty: 6
Genre: Techno
Song Length: 1:44
Notes: 435
Low NPS: 2
High NPS: 8

Division 2: Ochisukeruwakenaiwayo! [Standard]
Don’t worry, your guess about the pronounciation is as good as mine. At least we can all (hopefully) say Standard! Ochisukeruwakenaiwayo! [Standard] is a Very Difficult rated file by FFR’s overseer of stepcharts, the one and only jimerax. Division 2 takes a huge kick to the shins compared to last round by switching back to a chart with a relatively low jump count (and no triples), but tacks on almost 60 more beats per minute. To make things even more difficult, you’ll be taking on lots of 16th note rhythms, and you’ll also be fighting off a very consistent and active chart.

Musician: Yuuyu
Stepartist: jimerax
Difficulty: 8
Genre: Happy
Song Length: 1:37
Notes: 656
Low NPS: 1
High NPS: 12

Division 3: Night Walker
So much complaining about elegante last round! Poor bmah. That’s alright, though. Chances are, the masses will be skewed once again by the difficulty of this chart. While elegante’s difficulty contest was based off of two very small sections, it is very likely that hi19hi19′s chart for Night Walker will cause a huge fiasco due to the excessive amount of 24th note streaming through the last stretch of the chart. This chart shares patterns in songs like {Rose} and {Blaze} and has been rated a Challenging for the reason of speed comparison. Yet again, D3 has their work cut out for them.

Musician: S.S.H.
Stepartist: hi19hi19
Difficulty: 9
Genre: Soft Rock
Song Length: 1:58
Notes: 754
Low NPS: 1
High NPS: 13

Division 4: Finder
So, how are all of you guys in the Expert division feeling? Has the sweat come off of you and that intense fight-or-flight round? How many of you guys expected to need a perfect score to survive that last round? To those who didn’t make it, you have no one but yourselves to blame. This round, the difficulty gets kicked up a notch with Finder, a Very Challenging rated file created by MrPopadopalis25. Finder, while very short, packs a decent punch in difficulty, tossing a number of 32nd roll variations while keeping the chart active in between these blips. This time, there won’t be a AAA fest.

Musician: Sabrepulse
Stepartist: MrPopadopalis25
Difficulty: 10
Genre: Drum’n Bass
Song Length: 1:34
Notes: 689
Low NPS: 1
High NPS: 20

Division 5: 0 (piano version)
Perhaps round 2 was a little too much for you guys. While the song was incredibly short, we only managed to catch three perfect scores out of the Master division. This round will make up for that. jimerax makes a second appearance in this round with 0 (piano version), a low For Masters Only difficulty file that is a bit more consistent in comparison to last round. 0 (piano version) is another jumpstream oriented file, but unlike Ambient Angels, this file has a bit more speed and technicality to the mix, adding some constant jumpstream mixed with occasional grace notes, jump-jacks, regular jacks, and colors. Good luck!

Musician: cosMo
Stepartist: jimerax
Difficulty: 11
Genre: Jazzy Piano Solo
Song Length: 2:01
Notes: 1129
Low NPS: 1
High NPS: 17

Division 6: Amen Iraq
Last round was probably the most interesting tournament song to date – crazy pattern choices, wacky color switching, hilarious music, and a difficult chart to boot. This round, we tone the insanity down a bit with Amen Iraq, a For Masters Only chart charted by iironiic. It is quite possible that most of the Guru division will find this more straight-forward chart a bit more on the easier side, but in terms of pattern choice, speed, and burst structure, it does have some hard bits. Don’t worry though – after this round, things will push in difficulty very quickly.

Musician: The Flashbulb
Stepartist: iironiic
Difficulty: 11
Genre: Ethno Breakcore
Song Length: 2:37
Notes: 1681
Low NPS: 1
High NPS: 21

And with that, it’s off to the races.

Good luck to everyone who’s still in!

  6. Low NPS: 2
    High NSP: 8 <-typo?

  7. I’m still debugging my app, I’ll have to figure that out, lol

Edit: Looking at the song, it does hit 8 NPS near the start.

  8. No, look closer.
    NPS
    NSP
The “High NSP” has S and P backwards in all of them xD

  9. lolol
Main I’m so tired it’s funny. Fixed them all and in my app. Thanks.

I was so focused on the numbers coming out of this then the words I wrote in it.

  10. …..It sucks. I came home in a rush, hoping to get in a last play in my division to get a real score and not my site read, but oh well. Good game, thanks for letting me be part of it. Enjoy the rest of the comp guys.

  11. *Ochitsukeruwakenaiwayo!

  12. Saying D4 had no one but themselves to blame is horse shit. No offense but that was a really ass hole way to word that.

The people with the boo flags especially being kicked out last minute by Dark prince I think it was could argue they weren’t expecting it, along with the rest of us who saw as it climbed very slowly but then stopped to learn only 3 hours before the round ended that we needed to scramble like hell. And even if some of us did, you cannot EVER say it was just the person, there are so many variables to this game you cannot forsee.

TL;DR: You should really reword the D4 post.

  13. I won’t do so simply because:
    -
    a.) it’s article banter
b.) it’s the truth – so many scores were achieved right out of the gates and not many people tried to improve. This isn’t the case of everyone, but it’s definitely the case for a few people.

  14. 1. Cool whatever not really worth blabbing about
    2. Not quite. There’s a multiple amount of things such as lack of sleep, family affairs (thanksgiving weekend anyone) restroom and schooling to account for. Saying it’s JUST our fault is borderline stupid Aj.

That’s like saying when D6′s loses to Dossar it’s their fault for not sitting in their room 24 hours a day and whoring to catch up with him. Which you, I’m sure, can agree is not something you’d say ever. So why would you ever say that not AAAing the song is strictly our fault?

Please don’t take this as I’m hating on you guys or anything, it’s just kinda a huge middle finger and really taunting to the people who despite trying failed anyways. In short it’s almost offensive.

  15. Agree with midnight. This is taunting and offensive.

I don’t think that anyone is going to take this personnally, and it’s astonishingly balsphemous or whatever, but it’s not cool and there’s not really a major reason to write that. I’ve never heard “those participants who lost only got themselves to blame” after the Olympics. It would cause quit the stir if someone said that. Same here, it’s disrespectful.

  16. Yeah, it’s not a huge deal but it’s unnecessarily disrespectful for a front page post. You can make banter without pissing people off AJ >_>

Other than that, it’s a great post. Having all the stats laid out for each song like that is really cool.

  17. Wow, my cellphone’s autocorrect really ruined my post. XD here are some corrections:

    It’s: it’s not
    Balsphemous: blasphemous

But Yeah. Other than that, like what they said above. Post is pretty sweet!

  18. I blame myself. :(

  19. I kind of agree with Halogen and kind of not. It’s hard to support a statement like “you have only yourselves to blame” when nothing short of a AAA was safe, but at the same… I sightread 2-0-0-1 that song, and I’m not sure I’d even be in D5 (I didn’t sign up). Did half the people who got eliminated even play the song twice? The AAA for it is NOT VERY HARD.

  20. I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean it the way it’s coming off. There were a LOT of people that came in the 1st day, played, then never touched it again. I think that was what he was getting at, was the people who just assumed they were fine and never came back to see how the scores were going or even just try to AAA to ensure a pass into the next round. Any official I can remember has always been whore like hell to make to the next round (if you weren’t top of your division anyway)Obviously it’s not the case for everyone, some people could have been busy with work, school, holiday, etc. It happens, but as I was told in the last official is that sometimes real life get’s in the way and that’s just the way it is.

It may not be worded the best but I mean especially after he commented “b.) it’s the truth – so many scores were achieved right out of the gates and not many people tried to improve. This isn’t the case of everyone, but it’s definitely the case for a few people.” I think it’s safe to say he was kinda saying shame on some of you for not really trying and it’s your own fault.

  21. qq

  22. but the thing is
you DO have nobody to blame but yourselves
you should never assume that you are safe unless it’s the last day and only like 10% of the field has aaa’s
you had a whole fucking week to play the file, don’t you dare try to say that you didn’t have the chance to go for the AAA
on that note, hats off to ic0slay3r for fighting his balls off and getting like 30 miss/booflags in the last 2 hours

  23. Also, we’re not attacking AJ.

Of course we don’t think AJ was like “If you failed it’s because you didn’t try and you suck ass at this anyway”. AJ is great.

It’s just… Not very “sportmanship spirit’ish” (I’m foreign, I have no idea how to phrase that, but I’m pretty sure you know what I’m talking about). It kinda kills the epic tone of the whole post.

No matter why people fail… It also focuses on the ones that failed instead of the ones that succeeded, and that’s not cool. It’s not even put out in a friendly or competitive mind, it’s just “If you tried for real you’d still be in”.

I’m not one to rant about shit like this, and like hi19hi19 and I said, it’s not that big of a deal. However, I don’t like it, feel free to keep it the way you want, I won’t take this personnally, and I have nothing against the authors of this update, but it’s just my opinion here.

  24. Also, it borderline sounds like “We’re disappointed in you, those who failed don’t deserve any praise”, to someone who first read this, and I think that’s what disgusted me at first.

But peace out, I’ve ranted enough about this, ahahaha. Good round 3 everyone!

  25. Can each musician get a link to wherever they present their work, please? This stopped happening when the tournament started. :/

  26. Deadlock in D5.

  27. @Mike Weedmark i know a few ppl in my division were under some strange impression once they played the song once that was it for the round thats how a lot of my division was eliminated especially in R2

  28. Can each musician get a link to wherever they present their work, please? This stopped happening when the tournament started. :/

This was only done for the article previous to the tournament; all of the articles previous to that article didn’t have any links to the artist pages. I can start doing that again, but please don’t say that I omitted them when they weren’t ever there in the first place. =/

  29. So much QQ in here. Also, I loved 0 even though it didn’t feel like an 11 to me. Ah well.

  30. Lol Midnight, where the hell did “restroom” come from on the list of reasons why people didn’t AAA their song last round?
    -
D5 has the same situation this round, whose fault is it if the rest don’t AAA to move on? I think Halogen got targeted a little unfairly on this one..but I do see your point.

  31. Just the restroom one was a personal reason as I’ve been feeling like I need to take a massive piss every 20 or so minutes recently. Same with the sleep section family and ect.

But yeah, not trying to attack Aj at all, I mean he’s one of the best people on the site. I just wanted to kinda point it out that it came off as slightly offensive.

As for you people saying there’s qqing, no there really isn’t, it’s a few of us pointing something out. So stop trying to flame bait and the like please.

  32. lol I just played these songs now… and lol D4. Have fun.

  33. what’s up with darkbrezee’s scores in D4 dashboard?

  34. HaHa Xx{Somebody}xX is in the red

  35. …Dick.

  36. rofl at that D4 song.

  37. I love How in every round so far, files from a same stepartist have been used twice.
    Round 1: DossarLX ODI
    Round 2: bmah
    Round 3: Jimerax

Fun fact. Wonder if the same shit will be pulled off next round.
(Two synthfiles next round lulz I called it.)

  38. fuuuck, im out

  39. AJ, the musicians were given links in that one song post before the tournament because in the song post -before- that one, hi19hi19 asked for content suggestions and I suggested musician links. It was a “fresh” idea starting out. Please don’t take it personally because I know it wasn’t intentional to not provide them. It’s just something that really should be one of the top priorities with these posts, imo.

  40. i cant get out of the yellow :/ guess im gone this round ggs

  41. I roflmfaonaded at Attractive’s comment rating.

  42. It’s because he wastes his life using his alts to up his comments and down anyone who he thinks deserves it.

  43. What does it feel like to be crapped on by FFR and the admins? Well, I found out yesterday whenever I reached the long awaited 3 years mark and almost double the gts you need to reach veteran status. Now, I’ve sat back patiently and watched while many other players (such as choofers) achieved veteran status without meeting any of the requirements. And now here I am, 2nd day into my 3rd year and almost 6 billion gts and still no veteran status. Like I said, I watched several other players reach this status without doing a damn thing and I was quiet about it. Never said a word until now.

  44. Thank you. And I must clarify that I do appreciate each and every one of the admins for all of their hard work on the site. I know it’s all done for free and never take that for granted.

  45. It doesn’t update automatically, you have to ask one of the admins to do it. -.-

  46. Veteran status is automatic, people just have to go set it in their display group is all.

  47. They must’ve fixed it since Sept 11 (My vet date). I know where to go to change my status, but I didn’t have the option, so I had to ask Velocity to change my status. I suspect either he over looked the option, or can’t.

  48. The post still hasn’t been changed? There has been many tournaments where I got ‘kicked out’ with a last minute score entry, and you bet your bottom that I was pissed. However, AJ, no offense, whoever would have told me that it was “my fault” would have never heard from me again, especially from their lack of care in knowing and understanding my situation. Kinda rude, to be completely honest. Also it’s kind of detrimental to upcoming player’s motivation to get better, especially if there were certain circumstances that prevented people that were capable of getting a better score.

I still love you buddy, and whether or not you intentionally wanted to come off as elitist, it did sound pretty elitist. It happens that you subconsciously do so (from personal experience in the ITG community) after getting comfortable with a community, and sometimes say things that come off as harsher than they should.

    It’s just a game.

  49. And adding one more thing, looking at AJ’s status in the community, he’s a really nice person, and is rarely ever an asshole, to anybody, so that has to be taken into account, and the benefit of the doubt should definitely be given.

  50. so this tournament is going smoothly lolz

  51. elitism on ffr isn’t really anything new

  52. gj sappy
