Danger within Presence
Posted on: April 20, 2011, at 05:37:21pm

4/20/2011. A cloudy morning.
It was business as usual at school. Walk into first period, learn the day's lesson, activity, then move on. All was well at high school... or so I thought.
Over the PA, we all heard that there was a shootout within the vicinity of the city, about a mile from the school. Someone had shot someone, and the schools within the area were forced into an auto-lockdown, mine included. The police AND the S.W.A.T. team had covered all entrances to the school - no one goes out, and no one goes in, yetwe were able to move on through our day as if nothing had happened.
Most of the other students were freaking out. Others were just shrugging it off like it was some joke.

As for me, I was, like the patrol force, on high alert, and since I brought my huge 2-foot diameter umbrella with me today (I had a feeling it would rain), I knew that I could also use that umbrella for defense in case someone tried to shoot me. You might be thinking "That's stupid!" It isn't, not when you have agility on your side. So I walked around the school to my classes the whole day, never taking any chances, since the threat had made itself known.
Fortunately, there were no more shootings, but I still acted as guardian of my school, for I was the only student out of 4,000 others that was willing to put themselves within the line of fire. I never had to do that, but the way I see it, danger is always lurking around.
