Furries

Zoophiles are often confused with furries or therians (or "weres"), that is, people with an interest in anthropomorphism, or people who believe they share some kind of inner connection with animals (spiritual, emotional or otherwise).

While the membership of all three groups probably overlap in part, it is untrue to say that furs or therians have a sexual interest in animals (subconscious or otherwise).

Many furs find anthropomorphic adult art erotic and enjoy the companionship of animals, but have no wish to extend their interest beyond an affinity or emotional bond to sexual activity.

Expressions of fur fetishism and fursuiting are usually considered a form of costuming, rather than an expression of zoosexual interest and are usually legal.

Some "facts" about furries that are NOT true:
* All furries likes "yiffing", having sex in their fursuit or reading about it, or watching the pictures. Not true, I am a furrie and I don't like those things all to much really.

* All furries have a fursuit. Not true, only about 10% of all furries have fursuit. I only know one other furrie that wants to have a fursuit, and I know a lot of furries.

* All pictures that furries likes to watch are sexuall pictures of half man/half animal creatures.
Not true, this video showes that much.

* Furries want to have sex with animals - NOT TRUE. Furries love fantasy creatures that are half human/half animal, not animals. This part is a big BIG missunderstanding if anything. The things we like and have as hobby does not even excist people! It is impossible for this to harm real animals. Actually, during our conventions thousands of dollars are donated by us for animal care and shelters - how is this harmfull??

* Furries are rapists, pegophiles, necrofiles and all other disgusting things....wait, what?? NOT TRUE! The furries I know are the most gentle things! Personaly I like it when children laugh and get happy when they see me all dressed up, and if they want a hug - then I'm so proud! Because I made a child HAPPY! That is not phedophilia....that is humanity.

* All male furries are gay because no female want to toutch them....what??
So NOT true! There are many female furries to, and many furries have a boyfriend/girlfriend that is NOT a furry themself!

* Furries have low IQ....eehh? I ended my classes with the best grades of everyone...how the hell does this make me low IQ? Just because I like to dress up and act a little silly? Oh common.

That is just a FEW things I have been accused of. And it is NOT true, any of it. Of course there are people in this group that have sex, of course there are people in this group who has broken the law...but it's the same for any groups in society. Furries are a open group - anyone can be a furrie if they like to be, and we can not ban anyone to be a furrie - because then we would NOT be a open group. HOWEVER: we are not a gathering of sick and twisted people - we are just people that has an very extreme hobby. That is all.

   it just makes me upset when people say stuff about us, and dont have the facts, or take the time to Really learn about who we are and what we stand for. My self I have Donated to many different Causes, I have even started Bills that had been passed by are Government. one Being the Project S.H.E.P
   which passed. now protecting K9's in the serves of the Law. so if a crimial was to attack, Hurt, ect they can and will be charged with the same as attacking or harming a human.
   This law I am very proud of that I was appart of it :)

   Well, I don't flaunt my interests in the fandom around to everyone, but if someone asks or is having a discussion on it, I'll chime in. Usually I'm polite and reserved enough that people are surprised when I tell them that I am, and that surprise is very satisfying. It means I just defeated their conventional views on how a furry behaves.

   As far as animal rights aspects go, however, I haven't done enough research to know what injustices are out there that need fighting for. I do treat my pets as I would other people, albeit not as intelligent people. They're all like little children in a way. Granted, in terms of animal rights, I can usually take that to a global perspective, since some aspects of my spirituality have a strong pagan bias.

   I'm not a vegan, although I suppose I wouldn't find it difficult. See, that's another thing about the fandom. You may have your scalies and birds, but truthfully, it's all about the mammals. I look at the fandom as humanity's embrace of it's mammalian nature. I don't think a lot of people have that feeling towards, say, fish. :)

   you make me smile with what you have said. very true words in all its points, to add the reason for SHEP was people (crimials) where getting away with Murder so to speak by Beating, cutting up and killing them with out any punishment to them for it. that K9 is an officer animal or not, and its that Human officers Best friend and partner from Puppy hood to old age. I have know many officers that have lost there partners do to the acts of crimials and it hits the human officer very hard.
   Other things I have helped with are Wolf Safe parks protecting endangered wolfs. Myself I am not a vegan either. I like my raw deer meat to much XD

   nice video, and you brought up some good points ^^ there are various reasons people would consider themselves furries. I myself fall under therian, but as a non-anthro black wolf.
   Yet from what I know, there are some furs that fall under the less than dignified things mentioned, but for the most part, it's a small number of us. The exception, though I personally don't like the yiffy art being put out there either, it's not hard to find. But even then, it doesn't compare to the amount of hentai stuff that's being tossed around.
   What I like most about furs is that most of us openly accept our differences, and tend to get along with each other better. Rarely, if ever, do we judge each other based upon race, orientation, or any of the other petty little things many of the non-furs tend to unconditionally hate. Whenever we're around each other, there's very little fear of being humiliated, or negatively teased. We have far more freedoms together than we would otherwise, and there's a

   lot more to joke around with. Not to mention, I think we would tend to have a more personal outlook on nature too. One with the wolf, one with the wild.
