There is no cow level...or is there?????

For blizzard fans, I'm sure you've seen the phrase "there is no cow level" several times through out you game play. In starcraft, the cheat for instant victory is "There is no cow level." Its also a tip in WoW. I also hear its used in deoblo. However, I am not all knowing cow level knower... person.... But I wanna know what its really about. So tell me what you know cuz I'd like to mabey crack this one a open s'more.
